Summer's numbers are all down. They were all 1/2 of last week but she is making blood cells. She is getting a trasfustion today. Pray for her please.

Carrie, let's hope this will be the turn around point for Summer! Please keep reading the Meisha's Hope success stories. Be confident that Summer can fight this. Remember she is not in pain, just very tired. She will perk up after the transfusion and that will make both of you feel better. Best wishes, thinking of you, Brigitte & the poodle boys

Carrie, I'll be sending all the get better vibes I got for Summer. I remember when Tessy had her transfusion...I was soooo worried for her and couldn't wait to see her again! She was like a different dog afterwards cause it made her feel so much better! My thoughts and prayers will be with you both! I'll be waiting patiently for an update! Johnny & Tessy

Thank you all for the prayers and encouragement. I am waiting to hear from the doctor now. I just want to hold her. Carrie...waiting for Summer

Dear Carrie, Please know that you and Summer are in all of our thoughts and prayers. Remember the transfusion will help Summer get along until the meds kick in. It takes awhile before the meds suppress the immune system enough so the body won't attack itself. My Gracie had a transfusion, as did many of the doggies on this board. Some best friends need more than one. She will seem brighter tomorrow and that will make you both feel better. Let us know how Summer is doing? hugs, Gwen and Gracie

Just got off the phone with the animal hospital. They say she is in good spirits this morning, and she is eating. They are going to check her levels this afternoon. Please pray that they are up. So she won't need another transfusion. Carrie...waiting for Summer to Come home

Carrie, don't get upset if the numbers go down cause most of the time they do! It's totally normal! Tessy's dropped 4-5 points over a couple days after her transfusion before it leveled off! Do you know what the crit was post transfusion?
Johnny
I am going to get Summer shortly. Quick update. Her HCT was @ 6% before the trasfustion. It was 22% last night after. And they just ran it again at it is still 22%. Doc said she seems happy, and is walking around and eating and urinating. I get to pick her up in a few min. Thank you!

Carrie~ Glad Summer is holding her own. You are so on top of things. Sounds like you have a good vet, too. It is team work from here on out and I know you will do everything you can. Praying Summer's meds kick-in quickly and continual improvement. Our Tori, 8 yr old poodle, did not tolerate the transfusion well, but it saved her life until the meds could kick in. Unfortunately she is not a candidate for anymore transfusions. That said, she is doing great as she is going into the 5th month of recovery. Like Johnny said, the PCVs do indeed go up and down, but at some point Summer will balance out. Tori is around 38%-40% and we a happy, she is happy and we are prssing on... Blessings, Cindi & Tori

Dear Carrie It sounds like Summer's tranfusion was successful. Gracie had a transfusion when her PCV levels were 9% and after her transfusion her levels went up to 25%. Her levels kept dropping until they leveled off at 18.5 %. Then miraculously one day they went back up to 22%. My vet kept blood on hand in case she needed another transfusion. Some dogs do, but not until their levels go under 14% or so. Now Gracie's levels are holding steady at 36%. I just wanted to share with you my story so you can rest assured that you are doing all the right things. It will be so nice to have Summer home with you. She may want to play but keep her as quiet as possible. Hopefully her meds will kick in soon. big hugs, Gwen and Gracie

All, When I picked Summer up from the hospital today, she was so happy to see us. She actually pushed her little head into my stomach and squealed as I petted her. It was a very happy squeal! She was 22% last night after the transfusion, and 22% t...this afternoon. He has her pred and added Azathioprine and Doxicycline,as well as pepcid. He is happy to listen to my questions and concerns as well as talk about the latest research. I just looked at her gums and they are red. She is sleeping at my feet. I honestly have not been this happy in a long time. Carrie....AND Summer

Awwwwwwwww Carrie, I am so happy to hear the good news! I am so glad Summer is resting quietly at your feet. What a wonderful way to begin the New Year. So many people kept telling me this is not a sprint but a marathon and I am so happy Summer is in the race. She seems like a real fighter and with such a caring mom, certainly makes her one lucky doggie. Hugs to you both, Gwen and Gracie
