Hi Sarah, I am so sorry to hear about Tam, we too started this long trek on March 1st. Our dog Archie is on the mend albeit slowly. If you post the piece you wrote as a new thread the very knowledgeable people on this site will respond and explain tests and treatments if needed. Keep hopeful as it does help. Just note that the time difference means this site is busier later at night so check in again for responses. Good luck. Sue

hello sarah. this disease is awful but it can be beaten.its awful to see your pet suffer but you have to be resolute.all on this site have lots of experience so let them guide you as they have me.we started on 12 march with amy,her pcv was down at10 before a transfusion gave her breathing space,we went through a burst ulcer and another drop in pcv,and we nearly threw in the towel, but then she rallied again and now seems to be on the mend.but its a long bumpy ride you just have to hold on.amy sends hugs to tam. our very best wishes.john&amy.

Thank-you all for your kind thoughts. I went to see Tam tonight. He could barely breathe, his body had filled with fluid, and his circulation had completely shut down. The look in his eyes told me it was time. He is at peace now, and his spirit can run through the heather and over the mountains, free from the worry I saw in him tonight. Sarah

Dear Sarah -- I am so sorry that you lost your beloved Tam to this horrible disease. It sounds as if you are at peace with your decision to let him go, and your comment about Tam's freedom now to run through the heather without pain left tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. Sometimes the most loving thing you can do for your pet is to let him/her go. I hope your memories of your wonderful life together with Tam comfort you. I am sure your other dogs also will comfort you. Please take care.
