Karon, I wish the best for you and Maggie. The liver cleanse diet you mentioned sounds like the one on Dr. Dodds site. Have you spoken with or emailed her about Maggie? Her email is hemopet@hotmail.com and her website is www.hemopet.org. Karen

Thanks Karen for the email address, I will contact her. Have you tried it? I plan on starting Maggie on it in the morning. I spoke with our vet about it on Friday and she thought I might as well try. Her breathing is a little better this evening. My husband has sat with her all evening. BTW Maggie weighs 88 lbs now.

Karen, I have a 3 year old dog that has been battling IMHA for 4 months now. He is on alot of the same medicines you mentioned earlier however not on the Cyclosporine yet. He is 75 lbs and my vet said the cost would be $400-$450 per month. Someone said Cosco and I called them and it was significantly cheaper. My vet said they may be selling the generic version which she feels does not get absorbed as well. I have to call them back to see as we may be adding this medicine when I take him on friday. I've heard of others using the cheaper version and they say it works well for them. I dunno... His liver is also affected and he was on the prescription LD diet, which he hated. I started him on Dr. Dodds liver cleansing diet on friday. He absolutely loves it and I think it has to be alot better for him than the canned food. There are some vitamins that she recommends in addition to the food. Good luck with Maggie. Chris & Alex

Good morning Cris & Alex. Maggie wouldn't eat the Liver Cleansing Diet this morning. I tried it cold and slightly warm and still a no-go. I ended up cooking some pasta for her. I'm wondering if it has something to do with her sense of smell. Because she has this 'blocked nose' thing going on and sneezing, Ijust think that has something to do with her not eating. Any suggestions? The mdeication Denamarin which she is taking for her liver does have Milk Thistle in it. I did put some Eucalyptus on a cotton ball and let her smell it yesterday to see if that would help with her breathing. I take her back to the vets in the morning, I just have a feeling that her HCT will have dropped more (32.87 9/19 to 25 on 9/24)

Karon, Sorry to hear she doesn't like it. Alex had an upper respiratory infection about 6 weeks ago and had sneezing stuffy nose until he had a round of anitibiotics. Have you tried substituting the white fish with white chicken? She told me I could substitute the chicken as some dogs don't like fish. In addition she also mentioned two gluten free kibbles to supplement however they both have fish in them and if she doesn't like fish.... She mentioned you can season the home made diet with mixed italian herbs season, garlic or parsley. Later she said you could added chopped carrots, zucchini, yellow squash, spinach, green beans and scrambled eggs if they are tolerated. If you send me your e-mail address I will forward you some info she sent to me. Hope this helps... Chris & Alex
