| Hi Ella, Thanks for your response.Joey's allergies also started once he was being weaned off the prednisolone. At first he started to lick his paws alot, then he had a bad green discharge from his right nostril which resulted in him having to have surgery to clear it out as it didn't respond to antibiotics. He had a rubber dog tyre toy which he loved but I had to get rid of it as used to hold it between his paws and licked them more after doing so.He has been on 3mgs of Piriton for just over a year now and this seems to work so my vet says to leave well alone.I did try to reduce it during the winter but he began to sneeze and I don't want him to have another GA incase it kicks his anaemia off again. He had a skin rash on one side of his belly last year which was treated with a steroid cream and hasn't returned. As of yesterday his nose hasn't been runny but tonight he has been licking his paws excessively again. He hasn't had an allergy test as yet. | Hi Corrie, Just a question for you. Have you ever looked into the possibility of Joey having a yeast infection/overproduction? My flat coated retriever puppy had clear-the house-gas! I noticed his coat seemed thin and lack luster, his arm pits and belly were usually quite pink, and in the mornings it was apparent that he had been chewing/licking his feet and belly for most of the night. Well, turns out it is all related to yeast over production, and is a flat coat thing. The only symptom he didn't seem to have was smelly, yucky ears (Toqua cleans his ears daily, though). So, I put him on a hypoallergenic food (Arcana apple and lamb) and give him 2 tbsp of plain probiotic skim milk yogurt in his dinner every night. The change was almost immediate. No more pink skin, his coat got thick and shiny, and the cewing of the feet and belly stopped. Best of all no more peeling the paint off the walls! :) It has been about a year since we switched the food and started the yogurt. The problems have never come back. Just a thought for you.
