Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - flea control

Hello Everyone.
Timmy has fleas again and i am scared to death to
try advantage which my vet is recommending. Being i treated him with frontline days before he got AIHA.I am not 100% sure that didn't have something to do with it.Are there any natural products that would be safe like organic flea shampoos or safe topical treatments..

Hi Terry, I just bumped up a thread where someone mentioned natural flea products. Hope that helps :)

Hi Terry,

jan suggested in another thread recently using Avon Skin So Soft... I mix it with water and spray it on, then rub it in. Not only does it help with fleas, it smells great and my dogs love it. Its soothing to dry itchy skin to. I try to spray it on everyday! I just cant thank jan enough for this suggestion. I too am scared to death to use the spot on treatment. I even posted on my facebook to use the avon SSS...so give it a try and let us know what you think

Hi Terry,

My vet also recommended Advantage - I wouldn't use it! Try something natural as suggested by Wendik or the Avon product.... it's not worth the risk.

My beloved 12 year old Shih Tzu hemolyzed in July, after Frontline, Capstar, a flea bath, and eating onions. He made a rapid recovery, after transfusion and prednisone, which made his vet and me think that the onions were the true culprit, because he was off prednisone after less than a month, with normal PCV's 5 days after the transfusion. Last week, he was hit by fleas again. With great concern, after talking to his vet, who thought Capstar and the flea bath more dangerous than Frontline, I used Frontline only. He did fine--his only problem now is dealing with the hotspots he developed while I dithered about what to do. Talk to your vet, try skin so soft, but if no prompt results, you may need to move to something stronger. I am thinking that skin so soft may be good for prevention, but after the fleas appear, it may not be enough. Other experiences with skin so soft after the dog is infested?
good luck, and best wishes.
It is so hard the make the best decision sometimes---but when your buddy is incessantly scratching and miserable, it feels like you've got to cowboy up and come up with a plan, doesn't it!
