Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - few weeks from anniversary

We're almost at Slinky's 1 year diagnosis anniversary. What a year it has been. I wanted to take time to thank everyone here on the forum. I have learned a great deal from all of you and have certainly found so much support when I have needed it. I still check in from time to time to see how the dogs are doing.

We'll be heading off on vacation soon, it was upon return from the same vacation last year that Slinky got sick. She's staying in her own home this year with a dog sitter, rather than traveling to stay with my mother. Hopefully this will keep her stress level as low as I can.

Slinky has really had a remarkably good response to treatment, thanks in huge part I'm convinced to catching her early and starting prednisone immediately. She has been on prednisone for nearly a year now (she's now only on 1.25 mg once a week) and was on imuran for 6 months. Her PCV's have been holding steady at 50-52% since December. I still blink back tears of joy at every good news phone call from the vet. Our vet recently moved out of the area and I was genuinely sad to see her go-I feel like she lived through all of the pain and joy of the last year with me. Anyone in New Mexico? I can give you the name of a great vet :)

Great update. (For quite a while, I didn't have much time to come on the board, but I do remember Slinky). Glad the she's doing well.

I wish every story could be like ours. Slinky is such a sweet dog and seems truly grateful for her recovery. Sometimes she just snuggles up to me and looks into my eyes...I melt :)

Stephanie -

Wow - I can't believe it's been a year!

I am so happy to hear Slinky is doing well. There isn't a day that I don't stop to give thanks for the extra time with Murray and think of you and many others on this board. I am so grateful for all the help and support you shared last year - your knowledge was so helpful as we were fighting for Murray. I do hope we can still meet for that cocktail someday!

Bonnie-

Thank you! I'm glad to see that Murray is doing well, like I said, I try to stop in here and keep an eye out for the updates. I'd love to get together-in fact, anyone interested in a Chicago meet-up, I know there are several of us, drop me an email and let me know where you are located and I'll try to set something up.
