Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Encouraging update from Lucy (from St. Lucia)

Lucy had another CBC done today and the vet says everything looks stable and wants to keep the meds where they are, 30 mg prednisone once a day and 50 mg azathioprine every other day, for at least two more weeks. Here are her numbers and the acceptable range according to the Antech lab where the tests are run:

2/17 3/18 range
HGB 10.7 11.8 12.1-20.3
HTC 31.7 35 36-60
WBC 15.9 9.2 4-15.5
RBC 3.75 4.38 4.8-9.3
MCV 85 80 58-79
MCH 28.5 26.9 19-28
MCHC 33.8 33.7 30-38
PLT 159 449 170-400

Neutrophils
15582 8464 2060-10600
Lymphocytes
318 644 690-4500

I asked the vet about supplements to minimize any liver damage but she did not think it was necessary at this point.

Lucy's nose is better since we started putting DermaDream on it and, at 61 lbs., she still hasn't actually gained any weight - we have started feeding her smaller meals four times a day to keep her happy.

We feel so fortunate that Lucy is recovering and I continue to pray for all of you, and us, as we navigate our way through this confusing and frustrating disease.

That is great news Lee. Getting to the point where the numbers become stable must feel like such a relief. I know you still have a lot of work ahead of you but you can do it. Lucy got a good daddy.
Keep up the good fight and I hope that Lucy eventually gets off all meds and leads a healthy normal life.
I'll send a prayer out to Lucy tonight.
