Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Dunes Update 12/11/07

Dunes had a CBC last week and it came back 36.7-up from 35.6. Before that was 40 and 39. Everything else seems to be normal.

They told me yesterday (specialist) to reduce the pred to 10 mg per day from the 20 she has been receiving. My vet didn't want to move it but am doing so since the specialist got the report from my vet. (Original pred was 80 mg a day)

Hair that was shaved on her legs for transfusions is finally growing back. She's feisty and getting into things and doing damage.

Decided to do a PCV at the end of the week to just make sure we are ok.

Whenshe goes to the vet-the tech takes her-she walks over and gets on the scale, then she leads them to the back, where they take the blood. After which she lifts her head for them to take the blood.
Then she leads them back to me.

What a FIGHTER!!!

Good news Joe. Glad to hear that Dunes is up and the fact that she is feisty and getting into things is such a good sign. Give her a big hug from us!

Joe,
I think it must be something about a Lab. My girl used to behave pretty much the same way, she knew she was going to a place that was going to probably do something painful to her but she went willingly, head held high. I am so happy that Dunes is fiesty and getting into things. You both have come a long way.

Very cool.

Lola's hair has pretty much all grown back as well, and her adult coat is starting to come in. The new fur is softer than the old fur.

I was at the vet several months ago and some lady inquired as to why I had my dog "shaved like a poodle." I was like, "uhhh...." Hilarious.

We recently reduced from 5mg eod to 2.5mg eod. The less meds, the better.

Best wishes!
