Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Dunes - Update 11/18

Dunes is on the third week of 20 mg of prednisone. Waiting to hear if it will be further reduced or another of the drugs. Her count has been 40.6 two weeks ago and this week 39.7.

Not much difference, but she is acting more like herself. Chewing bones, scratching her back on the bottom of the kitchen table. She's also mad that she is not with me during the day-getting into things and tearing them up. She is even more my shadow than before because she can move a bit better.

She is still swollen in the belly (Atopic 150 mg per day, and imuran, every other day. She jogs in from going outside and barks loudly when someone is at the door.

I know that we are getting to the "tricky" part, hoping not to reduce to a place where her remission is gone. I understand that it is difficult to regain remission.

Always concerned. But I am grateful.

Joe,

Again, fantastic news, so happy for you and Dunes! It is so good to read good news here. Isn't it great to see them getting back to their old self. Holly is still doing good, even though we had to go back to 5mg prednisone daily, we were at every 3rd day at 2.5mg, but her retic count got to high. So we took 3 steps back, but still keeping positive thoughts. It is just such a very long process, but so worth it.

Joe, I don't check this list very often now, but when I do, I'm so happy to read good reports about Dunes and the other dogs that I've gotten to "know" on this board.

Great news!! Keep it up.

(And, yes, Maddie continues to do well. She's been evaluated three times in different classroom situations for her TDI certification, and has passed each time. We still have to do two more--hospital and/or nursing home--and then she'll be official.)
