Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Drago

Hello:

Dragos blood work is falling off even with all the treatment. This week she is more tired though she tries to hang in there.

Josh:

How is Sway? What did you do to turn her around so quickly? Please I need some help!
Sue K York

Sue -- what drugs/doses are the vets giving to Drago right now? You might want to send an e-mail/call Dr. Jean Dodds and see what she thinks.
Brenda VA

Right now she on a Cytoxan 25 mg am/pm 4 days on 3 days off. Predi. 40 mg am/pm plus an antibotic am/pm.

sue-
sways count has been holding at 23 for almost 3 weeks now. it is not going up, but it is not dropping.
we believe it to be the addition of DURABOLIN, because we are already decreasing other meds and her count is yet to be affected.
Durabolin is a human anabolic steroid...
i left you a message about this in another thread, did you not get that one?
i believe it to be really helping our cause.

Sue, have you tried a consult with a homeopathic vet?
In addition to alopathic treatments, Dragos might benefit from chinese herbs. Choe has been on several made by a company called futureplex-antitox; spleen blood activator, revitalization, liver drain. If you do not have a homeopathic vet near you the contact information to the one I use in Yardley, PA. is 'The Animal Healing Center', Yardley/Langhorne Road. Perhaps they can do a phone consult as well. Thoughts are with you. Jan

Sorry guys, my home computer is on the fritz.

Josh:

I will address this with my vet tomorrow. What other meds is Sway on? I also left this message on another thread. I am at work now so this is when I get to check the threads.

Jan:

Do these people do mail order? I am also going to ask the vet about this. Dragos marrow is producing but the spleen I believe is the problem. When I ask my vet why she isn't getting better if the marrow is producing he said the new cells are getting gobbled up as fast as they are produced.

Thanks to all for the information.

Sue-
the anabolic steroid is called Durabolin (Nandrolone is another name it goes by)
email me if you need more info on it...
only thing is you are going to have to get creative on how you get it, because it is illegal in this country due to athlete's & etc abusing it.

as far as other meds sway is on,
carafate/pepcid/soloxine
reduced dose of pred
50mg cyclosporine 2x daily
teaspoon of pet tinic 2x daily

I googled the steroid and it says nothing about it being banned in USA. If it is would any other steriod work?
Sue K York

no, it is definately banned in the US but that doesnt mean its not here illegally.
i had to go thru a friend of a friend of a friend that has friends in the body building industry to even get it.
my other option was to drive to tijuana and get it because they sell it openly there.
im not sure if canada would legally sell it or not.

and according to dr. dodds, it is the only one that you want to use...it is a shot, dose should be discussed with your vet.
im assuming they will know about it,
but no, you shouldnt just use 'any other one'...the durabolin specifically is used to replenish red blood cells in humans and to provide more oxygen for lifters and sprinters.

wiki it...it will tell you information about it.

deca-durabolin (nandrolone)

The positive effects of the drug include muscle growth, appetite stimulation and increased red blood cell production and bone density. Clinical studies have shown it to be effective in treating anaemia, osteoporosis and some forms of neoplasia including breast cancer, and also acts as a progestin-based contraceptive. For these reasons[citation needed], in the United States nandrolone received FDA approval in 1983, and while sale in the U.S. is now restricted by the Controlled Substances Act, nandrolone remains available by prescription in most countries which have not adopted American-style "War on Drugs" anti-steroid campaigns. In addition to legal production, Nandrolone is also extensively used by bodybuilders and other athletes seeking an edge in professional competition.

Just a quick hello and to say that we are thinking of you and Drago.

We know you have your weekly blood test on Tuesdays and hope that last nights blood draw brought better news.

yes, Sue, the Animal Healing Center does mail order. I have been using such as I live in the city of philly and it is not always easy for me to get to Yardley (suburb). They probaby would like to see Drago first but that may not be possible for you to travel. Anyway, if you want to call and ask to speak to Dr. Wendy Rodriguez and explain the situation and mention the herbs I am using for Choe the number is 215-493-0621. Jan
