From the sound of it, alot of people on this board are providing lots of special diets and home cooked food for their dogs. Are there any simplified healthy diets that are available over the counter...in other words...I barely cook for myself...any dry foods that work well for our guys with IMHA? Tiggs was on the Van Patten Duck and Potato, but it's a bit costly...any other ideas of nutritious dry foods that are palatable and don't cost a fortune?

Melissa, I too am fincially limited, but instead of taking Jewel for more tests week after week, I chose to research online myself about people with cancer and AIDS and what they do to prolong their lives or feel would help put their diseases in remission. And again everyone is different and believes and different things. But most stated the in the dog and human world that feeding fresh meat and veggies over processed food or dog food was better. One reason most stated is that fresh digests faster and give the benefits faster! I decided to spend my money on the fresh nutrients and vitmains than on tests that could have been wrong and costly in the beginning. If you had cancer or aids and you asked a Doctor if I change my Diet to total fresh meats, even low fat meats and fresh veggies that have lots of antioxidents, will that help me? And they said no not really, this processed food that states it has antioxidents and not even total nutrition will be fine....I would get a new Doctor. Well I was not in position to pay for more new testing, so I did that fresh food things from the first day I brought Jewel home from the first visit...When people here online questioned vitiamins and supplements I still gave her what it said on the bottle of her vitamins....if the dog is sick give 2 tablets per day...so she was sick that is what I did...and in week 2...I thought vitiamin C helps build immune system and red bllod cell growth...and vitmain D helps the immune system and bone marrow growth and calcium needs vitamin D and calcium will help bone growth and cartiledge growth along with her with glucosamine and MSM. So thats what I gave her and tried to space it all 3-4 hours away from the medicines and I spaced the medicines 2-4 hours apart also becuase they were too intense on her any closer together. Sorry so long...I don't claim to be an expert but I am offering advice because I know what is working for my dog and I wanted help so bad when this all began...then one day I said be still and listen to your intuition...she was at deaths door...I still might have to make that choice....what if I just treat her the way I would treat myself if I had no insurance and a Doctor told me I had this diease....and that is what I did for her. I will pray for the power of divine healing for you furry friend.. Pam

P.S. I don't cook for myself either and both my dogs are eating better than me at this point! My male dog lucky also had ticks from the same area at the same time so I thought I would do all the same for him just in case! But as I told my vet... I would eat the dog food if it means I can save or extend their time in my life!
