Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Did Stump the Westminster dog have AIHA

I know this sounds so far fetched, but it would be nice to for them to say what illness Stump had.

All they say is 4 years ago he was suddenly ill and spent 20 days at Texas A & M and has since fully recovered. My first thought was AIHA since he is a spaniel and and his sudden illness and he was so ill.

Just thought I would throw that out because if it was, it would be a great thing to get it out there for AIHA dogs.

I saw that too, I saw something that said 'bacterial infection' that took 19 days to figure out...who knows. But it's like the Dogtown thing, you wish that they would say it, it would help get the word out!

I thought the exact same thing and also thought what a wonderful spokes dog he would make to show that AIHA dogs do recover and help get the word out I tried reasearching it last night and the only thing I came up was his body starting shutting down and it was a virus and he was lethargic, so I am not really sure, but I don't think so. He is such a cutie!

I guess we all thought the same thing! That was my first thought when they mentioned a "Very serious disease".
That Stump is a cutie!

Duh, the lightbulb just went off, they would never say he had AIHA if he did, since cockers are predisposed to AIHA thus a genetic link and he could never be a stud dog, if he had AIHA because if they did, there would be an outcry.

I wondered that too, with AIHA jumping to my mind immediately. Sussex Spaniels are not Cockers, but are they related in some way? I don't know. I've only met one Sussex Spaniel in my life, and he was beautiful too.

(I was glad she chose one of the rarer breeds as BIS; puppymillers won't be able to capitalize on him very much. :-) If I recall correctly, the AKC Gazette indicated a very low number of puppies being registered when I used to look at that kind of thing. )
