Going to purchase Denamarin like Dr Dodds suggested for Holly. On line is say it should be given at least 1 hour before any food for absorption. She gets her sucralfate first thing in the morning around 7am and then no pills after that until around 8:30-9. Does anyone know if it would be safe to give these both at the same time?? Thanks, Linda

Linda, Denamarin would be best given after an overnight fast. Giving it at the same time as the sucralfate wouldn't be the best timing. Is it possible for you to give the sucralfate at bedtime, say a few hours after the last meal? Having it at that time will ensure that it doesn't interfere with the absorption of any of the meds and would give it overnight to sooth the stomach. Patrice

hi Linda. Are you ordering on-line or purchasing through your vet? My vet seems to hike up prices 3/4X what PetMeds charges. It really burns me up how they want to sock it to the customer. Just greed on the part of the vet clinic. I am thinking of purchasing D. for Choe. Jan

Denamarin is a high quality formulation and was only available through a vet's office when I was purchasing it. I know that is now available widely on the internet. I have even seen it at Amazon.com. If you spend some time searching you may find a good price. I also get some discount emails from vendors for things like free shipping so it would be a good idea to see if you can get things like that. I use healthypets.com and entirelypets.com to get discounts in my mail. Patrice

Patrice, I usually give her a few pieces of apple just before bedtime, do you think it would be okay to give the sucralfate with the apple before bed, she only gets like 4-5 little pieces. And then in the morning my hubby who she always wakes up early could give her the Denamarin, but he used to give them just a tiny little handful of kibble right after the sucralfate, but I guess he will have to wait on that, correct in order for the denamarin to work correctly?? Jan, I called my vet and of course they do not carry it, which is really what I expected when I called them. Even if they did I am sure they would mark it up so much, they do that with the prednisone and the sucralfate, so I don't even get it from them anymore, I just have them call it in to the local pharmacy up here where we live. Last week I spent almost $400 between the ultrasound and the superchem/cbc & retic bloodwork. I knew the ultrasound was going to be $200 and the bloodwork at our vet was $175, you would think after 19 months they would give you a little break! Patrice I looked at entirelypets.com because that is where I get her Pet-Tinic but they do not carry the denamarin, so I have found this place called petstruly.com that sells if for $33.29, not sure on the shipping charge yet, as I have not ordered it. I have to go to the medium size because she is over 12lbs. Just looked and healthypets.com doesn't carry it either. I did find a few other places, but not sure of their reliability. Petmeds.com does sell it with free shipping, but $10 more, so just a game of finding the lowest price. Thanks, Linda

Linda, No, I don't think little bits of food are bothersome. Dr. Dodds advised that folks using Soloxine should do it on an empty stomach but admitted that a small amount peanut butter was certainly fine. Really, you do the best you can with what you are able to accomplish. None of this is a science. Dogs are animals and it's impossible to reason with them about certain things like food. <VBG> Patrice

Patrice, Thanks, I will try this schedule, and yes you are correct about the food, Holly's appetite is 24 hours a day! Thanks, Linda
