Pets and Pesticides: Severe Reactions to Common Pet Treatments Increase Dramatically
A 50 Percent Increase in Dog and Cat Reactions Spurs EPA Investigation.

It happens tens of thousands of times a day. People treat their pets with over-the-counter, topical treatments used to kill fleas and ticks. But reports of severe reactions have spiked dramatically in the past year.

A dog gets flea- and tick-spray treatment, which can injure pets if done incorrectly.
Forrest Desmond and his wife own five dogs. They bought a spot-on treatment and used it on all five of the dogs.

"Within a half-hour, all five of them were sick, agitated, throwing up, coughing, wheezing," Desmond said. "These dogs are the most important things in our lives. ...These are our children."

The Center for Public Integrity, a non-profit, investigative journalism organization, has documented these cases and pushed the government to release numbers. In 2008, more than 44,000 severe reactions and 1,200 deaths were reported, a 50 percent increase from the year before, according to the center.

Finally these products are going to be investagated!!!

I was so happy to see that. Of coarse the mfg are going to state misuse and I am sure there is some misuse fo the product, but 44,000 reactions reported? And how many more that didnt make the connection that is caused by these products

And now I am wondering if my moms dog had a reaction to it. I told her about the segment last night and she said she put some biospot on her dog. And I said I wonder if that is what is causing her sudden excessive thirst? She is a sh*tzue that in the last 2 months started drinking like a gallon of water a day and having accidents. The vet can't find anything wrong. CBC looks good, kidneys, they they did a protein test, nothing shows up.

Choe and I were interviewed on CBS 3 May 13th.
Choe 's IMHA condition was caused by the use of Frontline. We, who have had such tragedy bestowed upon our loving pet companions after using these products, many of us who had the veterinarian apply the product, (mis-use certainly not applicable here) are very glad to see information finally coming to light that reveals a serious problem with these dangerous pet products containing neuro toxic pesticides.

We have used the diatomaceous earth on our yard for several years with very good results. There are also some other natural flea/tick products on this site. www.dirtworks.net Be sure you DON'T get the DE made for swimming pools, it has been treated and is toxic.

I've also used the Springtime Bug Off garlic tabs for our healthy goldens. Cody, our AIHA survivor, doesn't get them..... I just am nervous about the garlic for him. We've had good results for the goldens. Also, all our crew is bathed every 7-10 days, which helps enormously.
