Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Cyclosporine Q&A

First, an answer for any of you who may come across this. I posted earlier about my dog Cyclops who had a rash along her dorsal.. we had it biopsied and it came back as Calcinosis Cutis. Normally this is a symptom of Cushings but she has no other Cushing's symptoms and her ATCH was negative. My vet correctly said that her Cyclosporine was too high in her blood and lowered her Cyclosporine level and the rash went away. Hope that helps anyone who has a dog showing that kind of rash along the spine from neck to tail.

My question is.. for dogs who are on Cyclosporine only.. no Pred or any other med, do you still give the Pepcid AC (famotidine) for upset stomach? My vet told me on the phone today that it was no longer necessary since she's been off the Pred for 2 months. I was going to check with Dr Dodds and get her opinion but thought I'd ask around a little and see what everyone else is doing. My basic feeling is the less Chemicals the better. Hate to give something that is not needed. On the other hand don't want her to get an upset tummy or an ulcer.

Thanks!

Dr Dodds said no need to continue the Pepcid AC if on Cyclosporine alone. Just in case anyone had the same question I did.
