I have been reading some of the archives and I see that cyclosporine is mostly given on an EMPTY tummy! The internet information says much the same thing. My vet told me that I can give the meds AFTER a meal, since we are really trying to protect her tummy. The pharmacist said it can be given either with food or without food. My vet is off today, so I can't question her about this again... What is the general thoughts about cyclosporine and food?? Thanks AnnaMarie

IMHO and docs, after a meal is best and 1 hour after famotidine if giving that as well.

There are differing opinions on this, so I wanted to clarify that this is only what we do at our hospital and I do with my Lola.

Sierra gets her cyclosporine after meals. She doesn't have the tummy upset that way (we've been doing this for years, so I do not worry about it any more) While it may be that the rate of absorption is slowed down a little, since there is a 19 hour half life (approx.) and she gets dosed twice a day, and she's been on it so long that certainly she is saturated ...
