We have the bladder infection under control with antibiotics. Kahlu will be on them for 3 weeks. As we all know cranberries are good for people with bladder infections, and it has been recommended to give them to Kahlu. I went and got some capsules of 500 mg. I can open them and put it on his food. The question is, how much? Can you give too much? Despite this bladder infection the vet decided, it is time to reduce the prednisone. Kahlu has been in the mid 30ies for HCT (32-37) and between 4.2 and 4.7 in the RBC for four weeks. It is scary to reduce as you all know, but I am happy about it. We are going from 60mg to 50mg on a 60 pound dog. We will be doing lots of gum checking until next Monday! Brigitte & Kahlu

Hi Brigitte, That is good news. We, at the suggestion of Dr. Dodds and others here on the board, put about 5-10 dried cranberries in Tiggs' food for several months...he never got a bladder infection! I don't know much about the capsule formulation, hopefully others can elaborate, we just did the basic dried ones sprinkled in his meals. Sounds like Kahlu is doing wonderfully, I bet she will feel a little bit perkier after the next reduction. We noticed that after each reduction, Tiggs seemed to feel better and better. Hope that's the case for you too. melissa and tiggs

I can highly suggest Eagle Pack Holistic Anchovy, Salmon and Sardine with Wellness 95% Canned Chicken. My dog had a urinary crystal problem-from a hard to diagnose bacteria, antibiotics cleared it up. To make a long story short, after the Hills c/d route, I have been monitoring her urine PH levels for months-she was good on Calif Natural Herring and Sweet Potato, but great on the Eagle Pack. Holistic vets recommend a fish based protein for urinary issues, and this sure is working for me. Side effect-fishbreath! I also stocked up on cranberries last fall in the freezer, and she gets them occ, but with or without cranberries, the Eagle Pack has worked wonders. You can purchase urine test strips on ebay.
