Hello All, This letter is mainly to the “old timers” (I couldn’t think of another title—it’s a compliment!) on this thread who offer their experience and suggestions always making us “newbie’s” feel like there is hope and someone to talk to that really cares about our fur family. You have all been a wealth of information and support to us while we are dealing with Clyde’s problem. We are moving one day at a time and are so thankful in the right direction. I can’t think of another place to pose these questions and I do hope that something great will come of it. My first thoughts in reading many of the threads are that there must be some kind of financial assistance for this type of thing Of course initially I was pretty distraught…well maybe A LOT! I thought about the circumstances we found ourselves in with Clyde having to be in the hospital, transfusions, drugs, blood work, etc… I couldn’t find any and I did have a long conversation with Dr. Kruger who is one of the vets at Pet Care in Santa Rosa, CA which is owned by 4 vets. She is a young doctor who came highly recommended. I do know that Veterinary Hospitals are a business…of course, but I had/have a very strong feeling for those people who have no options and their only choice is not the good one. I know we are all over the world but I feel very strongly that any member of any family should have the opportunity to have medical care for their pet. I must do something to assist those who find themselves in a situation and cannot help their pet. I’m sure this has crossed all of your minds. When our pet needs to be in the hospital and they can’t be because of money…it just isn’t right. Can I bother you all for your thoughts on this…there must be a way to put something together…maybe in conjunction with teaching hospitals in our respective areas. I am more than happy to do the leg work and devote one employee 3-4 days a week to get this jump started. Clearly if I had unlimited resources…I wouldn’t bat an eye, but I’m not there yet. I think having Dr. Dodds on board, paying for thyroid testing for anyone who needs it and transfusions and meds…especially cyclosporine. I don’t have things worked out yet, but know I have to do something. I am open to suggestions…

Kathy, One of the ways you could help against the fight of AIHA/IMHA is by making a donation to the Meisha's Hope Fund # 338 at the Morris Animal Foundation: http://www.cloudnet.com/~jdickson/newhope.htm This foundation is doing research and studies of the disease at various Universities in the USA and Canada. Hemopet, Dr. Dodds organization is a non profit lab and happily takes donations. Best wishes, Brigitte & the poodle boys

Hi Brigitte and of course the Poodle Boys! Thank you for the suggestions...yes I could and will do both of these...but my larger concern is for the families who just cannot afford the vet care that is involved with this disease. I know...maybe I stretching too much, but it just seems that there must be a way to put something together. I am doing research trying to find out if there is any type of government or grant money that could help fund this project so we can in turn help some of these families with their pets. It just upsets me greatly knowing that at least at my vet hospital...if you don't have the money upfront, you get no care. Hugs, Kathy and Clyde

hi kathy, it is a disturbing thing when you have to think about losing your pet because of lack of funds, luckily when Tori was sick my vet treated her, the money was secondary, we worked it out, she had this disease for 10 of her 12 years, I am one of the very oldies, Joanne had just started this site. It's too bad that we are still looking at this disease so many years later, there is better treatment now but like cancer, still no cure when our dogs got sick, there was almost no info on it and the vets would say because it was very rare, but just look at the numbers. i hope that clyde is on his way to a good remission and you may never have to deal with it again. take care bev
