Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Chloe's update

I wanted to post some happy news! Chloe has now made it 16 months and is doing well. She has remained on cyclosporine daily (35mg) and is now on every other day prednisone 2.5mg. I switched from Denamarin to SAM-e and milk thistle combo and her liver enzymes seem to be stable. She remains on thyroxine. It is hard to believe she had a PCV of 9 and multiple transfusions (and the vet called her the dying dog). She is chunky and happy and has remained a true couch potato. Her HCT is pretty stable in the 40's as long as she remains on cyclosporine. The second her dose is reduced, her hematocrit drops and she fades. There is no way she would have made it this far without Dr. Dodds. I am convinced she saved Chloe. We celebrated her 5th birthday this week and I finally learned Chloe's purpose in life-to love everyone and be loved back. She is our true Golden girl! Coming back from the brink of death has been a miracle. I guess I will never understand how she survived blood clots and all the other complications because I don't think I did anything differently than other folks. I think maybe she just has a very strong will to live and to love. It is a good thing I bought Lixotinic (Petinic) in the gallon size because I have needed it!

Chloe says be strong, stay strong, and fight this awful disease.

Cheri.
Excellent news! Always remember, you did this. You did the hard work to keep the med schedule, the vet visits, the right food and keeping the faith.

Yes, Dr. Dodds is my angel too. She saved my dog's life.

Cyclosporine (Atopica) is approved for regular use in dogs that have allergies and it is considered safe.

Cheri,

I emailed you early last week but have not heard from you as yet. Perhaps this email went to your spam box. Could please check and see if you can find this email from me. If not could you please email me. I think you have both of my email addresses. I would prefer it if you would email me at my cloudnet email address.

Thanks much and a belated happy 5th birthday to dear Chloe.
