Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Chiropractic care
| I have 2 dachshunds, one with IMHA/AIHA. My non-IMHA dog sees a veterinary chiropractor periodically for neck pain. It seems to have helped him greatly. We just moved 2 weeks ago, so I took him in for a post-move 'tune-up'. While there I asked him about seeing Slinky, my IMHA girl. Slinky's PCV has been over 50 for many months now (since Dec. 2007). He said it would be worth taking a look even though she's young (only 2.5) because so much of the body's blood production is in the vertebrae. He evaluated Slinky last week and found similar neck issues to our older guy, something he commonly finds in dachshunds due to jumping off couches and beds. So, I'm going to continue taking Slinky to see him as he recommends, but I was curious as to what others thought and if anyone else has tried chiropractic for their IMHA dogs. |

| Hi Stephanie, My dog Benson had, in addition to IMHA, intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) and degenerative myelopathy (DM). If I had access to a veterinary chiropractor, I would have definitely utilized the service. And, as hindsight is 20/20, I would have worked with a physical therapist to rebuild some of the muscle loss due to prednisone usage. Benson lost a lot of muscle while being treated for IMHA and I feel that this loss made the subsequent diagnoses and treatments more complicated. I hope that the chiropractor can help Slinky. | Stephanie - I've been taking Murray to a chiropractor - it seems to have helped him with no adverse effects. Who are you seeing? Do you mind if I shoot you a quick email off-line? I just had a quick question for you. Hope all is well - glad to read Slinky is doing well. Bonnie |
