Charlie had his 4 week check today and he is still doing great. However, his PCV did drop from 46 to 42. The vet isnt too concerned at this point since he just went off the azathiaprine 1 week ago. He is actually more concerned about his weight gain. he is 74 lbs now, but he is technically still a puppy he is 16 months. So we have to lose weight, so i am going to do it with him.. LOL I will take him back in 4 weeks and we will see where he is at that point before we start reducing the pred. After the vet visit, he threw up in the car. I talked to the vet immediately and he said to just watch him over the next couple days and if i felt like he needed to be seen, to bring him in. Carol

Hi Carol, Way to go Charlie!! Have you checked his thyroid levels? When Tiggs gained a ton of weight, I had blamed it on pred, but he slowly but surely ballooned, and by the time I had the blood test, he had gained 15 lbs! Just a thought. So glad your guy is is feeling better! hugs, melissa and tiggs

I will ask about the thyroid test if he still gains next visit! He is gaining about 3 pounds a month! My chubby pup!

Hi Carol. Good to hear Charlie is getting better. If it makes you feel any better Tessy's HCT was 29 at one test and then 37 at another....all in the same blood draw. I don't think a drop like that is much to worry about but then again if it was me I'ld also be worried! Just continue to keep a good eye on him just in case. If he were slipping you'ld notice it I think. As far as the weight goes maybe you could change his diet some. Tessy was gaining weight at first until I started adding more veggies to her diet. I even feed her more now and she's still losing pounds! Give Charlie hugs from Tessy & I. Johnny & Tessy
