| We woke Saturday morning to find a very sick puppy. couldn't move and was very distressed. He would cry if you touched him. I took him to our ER vet and after looking him over and running some more test, reviewing his chart etc. this was the conclusion: He does have lyme disease. He had the tick test done early on while he was still as the regular vet and it came back negative. Evidently if the dog is already started on meds the tick panel can give you a false negative. The lyme disease probably triggered the auto immune and this latest episode was probably just a reoccurance of the lyme disease. He was put back on the doxy and is so far tolerating it (can upset his stomach). the good news is it looks like the autoimmune is still staying in check as all of that blood work came back good. His temp has returned to normal and he feeling better. It is sad though as lyme disease will never completely go away and his life will be full of painful reoccurances and then rounds of antibiotics. He is a tough little dog and when you look in his eyes you know he isn't ready to throw in the towel so we will continue the fight towards good health as long as he can. |
