Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Canyon Update

I just wanted to let you know that I took Canyon to an internal medicine specialist yesterday and we got great news! Her PCVs have gone up to 37. I am so excited. After writing to this board on Saturday, we started reducing her Prednisone by 25% to 60mg and her PCVs still were up from 32.5 the week before. Either her Arithroziapan started kicking in, the reduction in Prednisone helped or a combination of both. The Dr. said that we will continue to lower her prednisone every two weeks unless her levels fall.

She said we wouldn't see a change in her Cushing's until we get her down to 10 or 20 mg per day. That is still two months away - but I am so excited by the news! Another interesting thing the doctor said was that even if Canyon's PCVs were in the mid-30s range, Canyon wouldn't notice unless she was climbing high mountains. I am happy with that, as long as we can get her Prednisone down!

Yeah - Happy Dance! Thank you for your advice on this site! I have followed it twice and both times with great results!

Shana.
Great news! Just be careful of reducing too quickly so Canyon doesn't suffer a relapse. Best to you both.

Shana, great news. I hope things continue to go well for Canyon and that one day she will be med free.

Great news....that is what we are hoping for next visit with Daisy. She is getting so weak in her hind end from the pred.
