Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Can I substitute baby food squash instead of the

canned pumpkin? I need to pick up something today and that is all I can find. No time to order online.

Thanks!

Lisa -

I don't know if squash would work the same as pumpkin but wanted to mention if Whole Foods is in your area, you may have luck finding pumpkin there.

I'm in Chicago and couldn't find Libby's (that's the national brand here). I called Nestle (the manufacturer) and they said they harvest once a year (late summer) and there is a shortage b/c of heavy rains last seasson and they don't expect to be back in stores (in my area) until late summer or early autumn. However, I was able to find a smaller brand out of Oregon (different geography) at Whole Foods.

Lisa,
It is pretty close to the season for squashes, anything cooked like that will be fine. They are a little more watery than pumpkin but the fiber is in there. I also use boxes of frozen squash that I keep in the freezer.

Well when I went to the store again, they actually had the pumpkin so that is what I got. I will start him on it tonight!

thanks everyone!

I so totally no nothing about this but can't you contact a local grocer, food chain, etc. and personally ask them to stock this for you. Most folks are pretty accommodating this way. Also, what about online?
