| Again, thank you everyone for all the encouragement. Callie had her vet visit today and we came home with an RX for doxycycline. When she had her biopsy a few yrs ago on the lymph nodes it showed no parasitic indicators, but we have nothing to lose trying her on the Doxy. However, her foot is infected again so we are bathing it in epsom salts and hopefully it will continue to drain. The doxy might help that a bit, but if not, back to the vet again. Her rbc was down again to 23 from 25, but that is the smallest drop we have seen in a 4 day period. Question.....does Dr. Dobbs charge for a consult and if so, can anyone tell me what the charge is? My vet has heard of her and agreed we should ask her opinion on her meds, etc. if I can afford it. We are over the $3000 mark already in less than a month....getting a bit tough. But I do believe the worst of the expense may be behind us??!! |

| Valerie, That's excellent that you are only seeing a small drop. Perhaps Callie's PCV will stabilize now. Let's hope so! Hmmm, they can't do a test for ticks now? I am not sure why they would rely on a biopsy from a few years ago? I am not sure why they would test for ticks that way, a blood test is certainly less invasive. I am surely a fan of treating tick diseases properly, but doing a test first is more appropriate than just treating! The doxy isn't particularly effective for skin infections so you may not see much change there. Dr. Dodds does indeed do consults. Check this page and select "Test Request Submission Form and Instructions for Tests" at the bottom of the form you will see she charges $30 for consult only. All of her contact info is on this website. You can add a donation to hemopet.org if you find her service of value. http://www.hemopet.org/services.html my best patrice |

| Valerie, do have the tick tests done, When I stated that dogs are put on doxy at the begininning in case of tick diseases, in the meanhwhile they are tested So Callie should have the I believe its called the snap 4 its done in office and is only about $30 and you get results right a way, that covers erlichia an also the one thats sent out, thats more comprehensive if both come back negative, , they would normally discontinue the doxy. | When I went to the vet today, all I asked her to do was add doxy for Callie. We do not have ticks here. We are in the southwest part of the city, urban environment. I asked her to humor me and just put her on doxy because we have nothing to lose. She told me it really wouldn't help the infection in her foot...maybe a bit, that's all, but if she has a parasite it wouldnt' be a tick...maybe something else. The vet does not think so, but she is willing to try at this point. the bit about the lymph node biopsy came up becasue I asked her if there was a possibility that way back then could the problem have been a parasite. She said, no because when they did the biopsy, there would have been supporting evidence for parasitic invasion. So that's how that came up. She also was very agreeable to getting an opinion from Dr. Dodds. I don't want to give Callie unnecessary meds, but I am willing to try just about anything at this point. The vet said she would only allow her to be on doxy for two weeks. Ugh....poor baby. But we were encouraged a bit by the small drop in her rbc. After the first transfusion, the count dropped as it did this time, but on the second test it fell over 10 points...this time only a few. This is the smallest drop in numbers....keeping my fingers crossed. I have been reading about the reticulae(?)count of some of our contributers and their pups....Callie is down to 5000. (not good) Thanks for the info about Dr. Dobbs. I will do that tomorrow. What's $30 after $3000??!! Thank you so much again. I am so glad to have found this group of such kind and caring dog lovers, it has changed my entire outlook! Valerie |

| Valerie, great news to contact Dr Dodds,m she is wonderful. "We do not have ticks here. We are in the southwest part of the city, urban environment" An fYI, Wylie had the complete tick blood panel done and it came back for Rocky Mtn Spotted fever, a disease carried by ticks, supposedly we do not have that in our state.
