Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Butters Update

Well if you remember we got Butters the beginning of November. She was a "rescue" dog that had two fractured legs and was malnourished, etc. Today she is in getting the pins/screws removed from her front leg and is getting spayed! Poor baby. She is doing great, though and has put on almost 10 pounds since we got her. She is a wonderful dog and pretty darn smart too. She is house-trained, teething, all over the place, you name it! I have continued to give her the Hi-Vite liquid vitamins and her coat is a dark cocoa, almost black shiney look of good health. The vet was amazed how much bigger and healthier she is now. Just spoke with the vet and she is awake after her surgery and doing very well. Oliver is certainly looking after his protege from the rainbow bridge.....Just thought some of you might want to know how the pup is doing..All of you and your pups take care.

Hi Mardi

Im glad you posted this update, I was wondering how your latest addition was doing - sounds great. I considering asking if I can come live with you as well!

Question - what is HiVite liquid vitamins and is it for animals?

There seems to be a shortage of things like that here, or I havent looked enough.

Wonderful news Mardi,so happy for you and your family and especially happy for Butters who is so lucky to have a loving caring home like she deserves.

I know when Joanna got her rescue dog, she took her and got baseline levels on her bloods, might be worthwhile considering Mardi just so you know what a healthy range is for your darling girl.

From now on, any doggies that I have will be put on the maintenance dose of biopreparation(F2+),that way I can give them as long and as healthy a life as possible, because I believe as with humans that lack of proper nutrition is what is causing early cancer deaths along with other fatal illnesses in both dogs and humans.

Happy new year Mardi and I wish Butters a long and healthy life.

Nollaig was 4 on Christmas Day and she was and is the best Christmas present I could ever get,she thoroughly enjoyed her birthday cake and being spoiled rotten. We have a very special bond now,she has become very attached and loving towards me in particular Mardi,I think she realises just how far we've come on and how much both of us went through to get her here and I thank God for giving her back to me everyday.
Take care
Kathleen and Nollaig

Hey there Butters. Sounds like you found yourself a really good home! You've gotta feel like the luckiest doggie in the whole wide world right now. I'm also extremely happy your surgery went well. Mums doing what's best for you ya know. Maybe mum will give you a good treat after all this....you deserve it right.

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and words. Today she is acting like she never even had surgery! Bundle of energy. We are truly blessed to have her and getting her back into good health. Kathleen, they did a basic CBC check yesterday, I didn't think to ask for a copy of it. I will when we go in next week to get the sutures removed. I will be getting some of the bioprep also. Wanted to get all of this behind us. Congrats on Nollaig turning 4. Wonderful, awesome! Here's to number 5, 6, 7, 8, etc......I know how you feel. I hope you are well and 2010 is a better year. Silka, you bet, come on over! Laurie, it is a small world indeed! I believe you asked me several months ago if I knew Dr. Comas? She was a vet in Redding at one time and had moved over to the coast. Well, I kind of forgot about you asking me this until yesterday and I asked our vet, Dr. Comas, if she had lived in Redding and low and behold she had. This is the vet you had asked me about. I mentioned Vetnet and you and Wylie and she said she remembers you and Wylie and how you were seeing another vet in her office. She was stunned and surprised about the conncection. We had been going to another vet when Oliver was sick. The prior owner of Butters had taken her to Dr. Comas so we stayed with her as she was familiar with Butters situation, etc. She is a very nice vet! Small world indeed! The Butters name was my son's idea. He is a fiend for South Park and one of the characters name is Butters. Oh well! Thank you again everyone and god bless you and your babies.
