Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Busters one year update

Hello everyone. I just wanted to update everyone on Buster's progress. It's been a year now and he was doing so well after having IMHA. We were able to stop all drugs about 3 or 4 months ago when his PCV had reached, and stayed, in the upper 30's to lower 40's. He was able to lose all of his prednisone weight and was acting like the happy, energetic little cocker spaniel that he had been before IMHA. Lately, however, we started to notice him slowing down. Of course, our fears went first to IMHA, and we rushed him to the vet for blood work. All of his numbers came out perfectly, so we have been watching him closely. He seems to be in pain down his back, has no energy and is weak in his hind end. He also had a fever. Our local vet has given him pain medication and antibiotics and said to just keep an eye on him. Well, I just made an appointment with U of I vet school and will be taking him next Tuesday, unless he gets much worse. At least the IMHA hasn't returned. I just hope it isn't a case of "be careful what you hope for". Please keep Buster in your prayers.

I am sorry to read the Buster is having problems and I hope you can get some answers when he sees the vet next Tuesday.
Happy to read that his bloodwork is good and he is off the meds. They should test him for Lymes disease if they have not done that already.

Sending our prayers

Rhonda,
That is just not right! Any dog that beats this should have no further aches or pains or anything else and nothing but good doggy days. Keeping you and Buster in my thoughts and prayers.

Ronda,
Wishing you and Buster the very best with your vet visit this next Tuesday. Hopefully it is something of a minor nature and he will be back to his happy healthy self real soon.

Ronda, I sure hope it's nothing too serious with Buster and the meds work.
