Hi Everyone, Well we went for our blood test today and we had good news---Bugy's PCV was 28 !!!! Five points higher than it was two weeks ago. He is still taking the same meds--15mg pred, 120mg cyclosporine, twice a day and liquid asprin and 5mg pecid ac once a day. Still not eating very well but at least he is eating. Now all he wants is chicken. Last week it was turkey from the deli. And boy does he fight when it's time to take his meds. We know have to "shoot them down his throat". We have to return for blood work in two weeks and I plan on asking them to check hi sother levels also. Can anyone offer anything else I should ask about. Should he be on any supplements ? I've read in some of the posts here about something called milk thistle (not sure if thats the correct spelling). What about food ? Does anyone have any thoughts about what s better thant others ? Wishing everyone well dealing with this terriable diease, Lisa :(

Lisa...You want to feed something that is about 30% protein, low fat if possible. No grains i. e. no wheat, corn, soy etc. is most important. If you look up Jean Dodds' Liver cleansing diet it is low fat fish for protein and various vegetables cooked at a ratio of about 1/4th fish...3/4 veggie. Their are foods with high protein content " The Ancestral Diet" from Innovo that is 52% protein, but Jean Dodds' told me it was a little too high so I have mixed it with California Natural (20% protein)to get to about 30%. Along with the other supplements I mentioned earlier.

Lisa, Nice to hear that Bugy is doing well. My Nibs liked chicken last week. This week it is roast beef. I haven't tried the milk thistle, but I have planned on asking the vet about it. All the best, Shirley

Jasper has 3 meals a day. Breakfast is weetabix and bran flakes. Lunch and dinner are divided into 2 portions, he has his normal dried commercial food with a mixture of wholemeal or brown rice with mixed vegetables(carrots, green beans, peas, sprouts etc) just to pack it out so as to fulfil his appetite without adding too many calories. This we cook in advance and keep in the fridge and use up over maybe 2 to 3 days. Whatever meat we have we always save some for him and mix it in with his meal. He does have milk thistle.... which aids his liver function. I think its made a big difference to Jasper. Its a case of just getting them to eat in the beginning, but watch out when they start eating as the steroids make them want to eat all day long! Good luck, Jackie and Jasper
