Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Bronwyn's Biscuits

Hi, everyone. Some of you may remember me from early in the year, when I found this forum after we lost our 19-month-old Yellow Lab Bronwyn to IMHA. Brownyn's death devasted us; like so many, we'd never heard of IMHA until she was diagnosed with it 3 days after Christmas. We lost her in the space of 36 hours.

I've been an occassional lurker and sometime poster here on this board since then, and I wanted to let everyone here know that I've started a small dog treat business in her honor. I wanted to do something to help bring awareness to IMHA after Bronnie died, but couldn't afford to just make a donation. It bears her name (Bronwyn's Biscuits), and I'm donating 10% of my proceeds to the Morris Animal Foundation to fund IMHA research. The plan is to increase that donation amount down the road (hopefully to 20-25%), but I'm also trying to make my son's tuition right now. Being completely computer inept, I don't yet have a website. I've no idea how to build one, but my sister-in-law is working on it, so hopefully that's not too far off. I've got 4 flavors available right now: Peanut Butter, Chicken-Honey, Apple-Cinnamon, and Cheddar-Dill. They're all made on a whole wheat base with all human-grade ingredients - I've been known to eat the dough while baking, and my 18-month old likes the apple ones.

Feel free to send me an email if you're at all interested, and I can give you more info. They'd all be baked to order, so they'd be nice and fresh when they got to you. There are no preservatives, but since I dry them out in the oven after baking, they'll keep for 6 weeks or more in an airtight container. Just wanted to let everyone know - trying to do my little part to help in the fight against IMHA.

Dear Elizabeth -- what a wonderful way to remember your dear Bronwyn. I hope you can get a website up soon, since that will help market the biscuits. You might also try to see if a local business might be willing to let you put out biscuits for sale. In my town here in Virginia, a local pizza parlor sells dog biscuits that are mass produced. They had actually approached a local dog bakery, but the owner of the bakery didn't know if she could take that on just yet.

It is so devastating to lose your beloved pet to an illness that most of us had never heard of until it struck our household. It helps to do as you and others have done -- try to turn a negative to a positive by raising awareness and supporting the Meisha's Hope Fund financially. Our pets will always live on in our hearts and our efforts to remember them may help other families from facing the same sadness.

Good luck and God bless you. I know Bronwyn's up there with my Wiley, Meisha, Tasha, Stormie, Tabitha, Buddy, Drago, Nel, and so many others.

congratulations Elizabeth on making the effort to get help and awareness for this awful disease and honor Bronwyn. I just lost Brandy yesterday and the support of the people here is awesome. I too feel I don't want to lose touch with these beautiful souls and had been wondering what to do. Your idea is fabulous.
I also make homemade doggie cookies and cooked treats.
don't worry, I have no intentions of going internet and spoiling your plans, but it might be special to do a local marketing.

God Bless and one day we will see all our friends again in that blissful paradise.

Just wanted to mention that my (Ok Maddie's) shippment of Bronwyn's Biscuits arrived today. Since I couldn't decide which kind to order I ordered all 4. Maddie adores these great Biscuits and that fact that 10% of the proceeds goes to the Meisha's Hope AIHA/IMHA Fund #338 at Morris Animal Foundation

makes them even more wonderful.

Thanks much Elizabeth, what a wonderful way you have found to honor the memory of your most beloved Bronwyn.

You will be, without a doubt, receving more orders from me in the future. I also plan to share the biscuits with some of the dogs in my neighborhood and hope to give some to some of my friends who are dog caregivers for Christmas.
