Had a panic attack tonight. Miss Brandy was doing better today and I was feeling a bit hopeful. Then after going out to potty I saw some blood in her mouth. she dripped some on her paw and I gave her a drink which turned the water pink. Since then it seems to be gone. It stopped within 5 min and she then ate a huge dinner and out to potty again. She is lethargic but had meds with dinner and is usualfor tired. I am thinking she bit her tongue coming up the 3 steps into the house. I am so paranoid and now just when I thought we might be getting to safer ground... I am checking gums, etc every few minutes since! Is everyone this paranoid?????? Calls in to vet but no call back yet. Since it stopped I didn't jump into car for emergence call. thanks for being here for me to vent. tired and drained........ Brandy's mom

| Glad Brandy seems to be okay. Maybe you can get a better look in her mouth tomorrow, sometimes it takes two people to get a really good look. I can't speak for the others but yes I am that paranoid and I check Ginger's gums at least four times I day. She puts her head way down when she sees me coming!!! Keep us post on how Brandy is doing. | After everything all of us have been through, it is normal to be paranoid because you never know what direction their health is going. I have a group of friends that meet early mornings on the beach with our labs and one of them knew what I was going through with my dog. He told me about his situation. His dog has developed an esophagus that doesn't close completely so he cannot swallow nor hold down regular food. He has to take the raw food he normally feeds and put it in the blender and then feed his dog with a large syringe (we're talking about a large male lab)then he has to hold the dog upright for about 20-30 mins for the food to stay down. At first the dog liked the attention and being held, but then he got tired of it. So now he feeds the dog and then immediatly, the dog tries to get away and runs throughout his home vomiting up food as he runs (raw food). Just another example of what we all do for our pets... Good luck, Ron |

"Is everyone this paranoid??????" I am so glad to hear people on this board are just like me I am not alone Wylie was diagnosed in April while checking for other things so her HCT has never been below 32. In May she had her slenectomy and end of June taken off Pred. Well I freaked out with her going off pred and was checking her gums several times a day. (now I am onjly down to abut twice a day) Had her to the vet like every 3 days for her HCT rushed her in one day since I thought her gums look pasty. How isBrandy doing today? Laurie

thanks Laurie for confirming the paranoia! I am actually having a very bad day. Last night Brandy had another episode of bleeding and I could see a small crack on her tongue next to her tooth and a little irritation on the gum with very dry membranes. I do think both were from a dry mouth the result of panting. all was clear within minutes but the panic didn't Evening is her worst time of day for panting and restlessness. Finally fell into a restfull sleep (as I watched from the couch - the new bed), and she woke up this AM with more than just a squirt of urine under her. I just didn't have the heart to wake her to make her go out and she went over 7 hrs, which is unheard of with the amount of water she drinks. she then went out and peed a gallon and pooped and had a big breakfast. The rest of the morning she has been VERY listless and of course I think the gums look worse. She has a vet appt today and I am majorly stressing over that because it takes a lot out of her. My husband is meeting me at the clinic to help and my friend is coming here to be sure we get in the car ok. She is a big girl 105 lbs and uses a ramp but her legs are weak this morning. Sorry for the ramble but I am so stressing. thanks again to all here and I just keep thinking there are worse cases by far and have made it. keep us in your prayers today.

Sharon, Hang in there, we will be thinking of you. The drugs are pretty hard on them. Tiggs has had daily episodes of incontinence, even now that his PCV is up and he's feeling loads better, urine still seems to seep out of him and he doesn't even notice! We place a towel or two on top of his bed, and for a while, we set the alarm in the middle of the night to take him out. I've also tried giving him ice cubes to suck on for the dry mouth and thirst. I also started buying toddler pull up diapers (they were way cheaper than doggie diapers), and we undo them on the sides, wrap them around his waist, and re-seal them. At least now we can sleep all night! It's so hard, I know! Good luck today and be sure to update us! We will be thinking of you! Melissa

If at all possible try to remain calm when Brandy has to go to the vet today. I think they really can tell if we are stressed and if you are relaxed maybe Brandy will relax a little. Our thoughts and prayes are with you and Brandy. Cheryl & Ginger

It has been four years since Missy's last relapse, almost 5 since the first episode of IMHA. I still check gums/ears every morning, get PCV every two weeks and I am driving my vet crazy about a routine spay/dental that we finally decided she needs to prevent demodex reoccurrence due to the long term pred. So I think the answer is "yes" if you couldn't figure that out from my message...Hang in There... Mary and Missy, Tx.
