I called this morning and talked to the tech as Dr Gloom and Doom is back on and was making rounds. She said Brandi is at 19 pcv and 30 on platelets. I believe that to be 30,000. I called last night to check her cbc after the transfusion AT 10PM JUST LIKE THEY TOLD ME TO. I got Dr Lindlemen who was 10 times worse than Dr Doom and Gloom ever thought he could be. Not necessarily in gloom and doom but disrespect. He immediately belittled me for calling because (read this as anger on his part) like i told you yesterday i don't take blood right away after a transfusion! OMG! I could not believe his tone! I stopped him mid sentence and went off on him. I told him I was following the directions given to me when I left and that he has no right speaking to me in that tone as I am highly fragile, I pay my bill, which pays his salary, proceeded to repeat back to him what he said to me but used a tone HE should have used. I then asked HIM if he was a pet owner or a pet lover. He claims he's a pet lover and has 3 labs at home. I told him I am a project manager and I would NEVER EVER speak to any of my customers the way he just spoke to me. I was crying hysterically when I hung up. I then called my regular vet and told him about these 2 vets. He calls up there because I was so upset I forgot to get the dosages of her meds. He called me back with the info and he told me that he had told this vet that I am not a typical pet owner (lover) and that after I lost Cassie I had been active in forums and did a lot of research. This er vet had the gall to tell my vet - then tell her to come up here and be the vet! That was it, I am so done with them. I am moving Brandi to Ok State Univ Vet School Critical Care unit today. Here are the dosages Brandi is on: Pred 30mg twice a day, Azathioprine 25mg twice a day, Atopica 100mg 1 time a day, then pepcid and carafate.

Holy cow Teresa, good for you for standing your ground. I am at a loss for words that a vet can be so callous and heartless and unprofessional. To speak to not only you but your vet that way is wrong. Now take a deep breath and think good thoughts of Brandi going to the teaching hospital today. That is defininately the right thing to do. What kind of dog is Brandi? When things settle down I would find out where you can report these vets ansd write a letter on your experience. (hugs))) Teresa and Brandi Laurie

Teresa: I agree - good for you for standing your ground! And hang in there. Dogs can and do survive this dreadful disease. Our 11 1/2 year old GSD/Cocker Spaniel mix Sheba was diagnosed April 3rd this year. She spent 6 days in ICU at ISU's VTH and required 1 transfusion when her PCV dropped to 17. As of Wednesday she is off all meds and her PCV is holding at 42. I am hoping that when we have her retested on the 31st her numbers will be good and we can officially call her "in remission". So, again, ignore Dr. Doom and his idiot companion and just hang in there. Everyone here understands what you are going through and we're all pulling for you and Brandi! Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers and all fingers and paws crossed! Rita, Mike and Sheba

Geez, What is with all these Vets having such poor manners and dismal outlooks. I hope anyone who has a great Vet will post their names and locations so the people that are having such difficult times will have options to consider. Never be afraid to be your dogs voice maybe eventually these callous Vets will listen. Penny

some of these vets are just trash can human beings. the lack of compassion and rudeness i read about sometimes just makes me so mad that they say these things to people. im just thankful mine are exactly opposite of that, sorry u had to experience that teresa

Teresa, I'm so glad you stood up for yourself and for Brandi. Some of these vets and doctors think they are God and would never acknowledge that any talent or gift of healing they have comes from Him. It is so disrespectful the way some of them talk down to us while filling their back accounts with our hard earned money. If you read my earlier post, you'll see the hurtful words my gloom and doom vet (should I say previous vet) laid on me. I wish you and Brandi the best with the new vet. I hope that I can find another more compassionate one who is willing to follow Dr. Dodd's protocol without making me feel like an idiot irresponsible pet owner. Karen

Teresa, I am speechless at what jerks some of these vets are. Good for you for standing up for yourself and for Brandy! I hope you find someone who is more respectful and responsible. You are so right to be done with that place. Good luck to you and Brandy at OK State.

I forgot to say Brandi weighs 36 lbs. She was about 26 when all this started in Oct. Interstingly, my regular vet ran every test available in Oct that might have caused the platelet destruction. The Coombs was negative. Now I was told yesterday by Dr Doom that she's had AIHA since Oct as her pcv was 18 the first time I took her to an er hospital. No one told me that. I only started looking at her PCV values after we came back home and went weekly to our regular vet. They were always, always above 40. I have read you can get a false negative on the Coombs test. And I'm not sure I really believe Dr Doom about her being 18. If she was, why didn't the er vet tell me that? This is all so puzzling.
