Well, Bozeman has kicked this disease. Our vet says there is a chance he will relapse, of course, but he is fully weaned off of the prednisone and his blood count is holding around 44! Thank God! He was diagnosed 7/31 and his red blood cell count was down to 11!! We decided not to do any transfusions or hospitalization due to cost. A couple of weeks passed and his count only climbed slightly to 14. The vet decided to add Doxycyclene (spelling?) into his meds. As soon as we added it, his levels rose drastically. Because he responded so well to that drug, our vet thinks it was a tick that might have triggered Bozeman's IMHA. We went in for Boze's last blood count 2 weeks ago and won't be back until he is due for his yearly exams. What a ride...nothing I want to do again anytime soon. As you all know, the disease is horrible, and I pray for all of the families dealing with it right now. Thank you so much for your support when I was down in the dumps thinking my little guy wasn't going to make it. Shannon

yea it sounds like it was brought on by some sort of tick... doxycycline is specifically used to flush them out i think.

Shannon, it makes no difference (not quite true, of course) what triggers the disease, the results can be bad. I'm glad your Bozeman has recovered. It's such a relief, despite the expense. Congratulations to you both!! Ruth
