Just been to Lort Smith Animal Hospital almost two years to the day after losing Scruffy. I acquired a beautiful persian himalayan cat from horrible circumstances a year ago. Her owner died and she was passed on to other breeders who did who knows what with her keeping her locked up in a shed. She was skinny and they had shaved her tail completely when I got her. I bought her as I felt sorry for her. Just found out her teeth are very bad. I took her to Lort Smith hospital and they did blood tests. She is anaemic, with low red, white and plakelets cells. Further tests being done on her. She is a sick cat not related to IMHA but it brings it all back to me. Will find out later what is wrong. Information I have learnt here will be helpful now.

Julie, Thank you for rescuing this poor kitty. Have they actually ruled out AIHA? I know that you will do all that you can to get her nursed back to health. Sending best wishes to you both. Penny

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Yes, she was owned by breeders who took her in after her original owner and breeder got very ill with cancer. She was a caring person who never bred with her and had her as a pet. Unfortunately the new ownders didn't do the right thing by her as she weighed less than two kilos when I got her and is now 3.7 kilos. She was so matted she had a completely shaved tail. Her name is actually Amayer Billy Holliday (show name registered with the Feline Council). She is a sweetie we call her just Billie, and joins my other family of cats. Better news today from Lort Smith. They rang and told me their in-house blood testing must be inaccurate and the full CBC with Gribbles Pathology is showing a different result with much more normal levels than originally shown. They are hoping to do the Dental today and think she will be ok. Just shows you that blood results can vary enormously. Gribbles would be accurate as that is all they do. Hopefully I will have a good result today. The knowledge I have learnt here has been a real help for me now and in the future. Julie.

Hi and thanks for your kind support. Billie is okay. The results came in very differently than first thought. She has had her dental and is okay. She does have a heart murmur which I didn't know she had. But I am not doing further tests as she is now 7 and has probably had it all her life. Hopefully, she will continue on okay with this. It has cost a lot just for the teeth which were really bad. I am going to pick her up in the morning and just happy that she is okay. Thanks everyone and thanks Silka for your kind words. You are also a great help on this form to everyone as well. Hoping that your have now come to terms with losing Riley, as I know just how hard it can be. Julie.

| dear Julie, What a lucky girl Billy is to have found you..... You have such a kind heart. I wonder is the heart issues are a result of the rotten teeth? Millie also came to us with a mouth full of rotten decayed teeth. Although we had them removed, we found out during scans for her IMHA, that she had congestive heart disease most likely due to the infection stemming from the severe oral decay spread through her blood stream and damaging her heart. Previous owners have a lot to answer for. keep us updated on darling Billy, and I am sure she will thrive with your care. She certainly will be grateful that she can eat without pain now. | Hi Samantha, an interesting thought. They said a heart murmur can present later on in life and not necessarily something she was born with. I have decided not to investigate further but am aware of what can go wrong with her now. Could have been the rotten teeth but am not sure. Can't get over the huge cost just to get the teeth done. Vet care now is almost impossible to afford. Nearly $700 just to go this far. Luckily they are allowing me to pay it off. |

Hi Julie Im so happy that Billy is doing better and that the first results were wrong. Great news. Yes vets are extremely expensive arent they - had a discussion with the vet nurse near me and she thinks the emergency clinics have outpriced themselves, I guess because they know they are 24 hours and people will pay what it takes to save their pets. Thank you for your thoughts - I miss Riley and think about him a lot, but I think I have come to terms with it - up and down - but you know how it goes. Bonnie is such a comfort to me and Im so glad I have her, and yes Im paranoid about every little thing. Keep us up to date on Billy's progress. Silka
