| Bella had routine bloodwork today and the Vet made the determination to remove her from prednisone altogether. She was currently on 1/4 tablet on Mon and Thursday. Her PCV was 40% today!!!!!!!!!! This from an initial count of 6$ when originally diagnosed on 9-28-07. It has been a LONG year but she has made such huge improvements. My wife and I are so pleased that she has progressed as well as she has and can only hope that she continues to stay healthy. She is a bit chunkier than I would like, at 21.2 lbs on the scales today. For a Peke, this is a bit much, but she's SOLID.. not a normal obese looking dog, just solid as a rock.. :) I know that many posts here are not positive and I wanted to give all of you out there the encouragement to know that while this is a God awful and terrible disease, there is hope for your precious little one.. | That is GREAT news!!! Very good!!! How much Pred was she on? Did the vet slowly reduce it? My Mia Grace was diagnosed on 9-22-08. She's been on 50mg's a day. Her PCV is holding at 27. The lowest PCV was 3. She is still not active at all (except when it's feeding time!!), but she's still with me!! Her worst is in the mornings. I LOVE hearing news like this! I am so nervous. I can't have kids, so she is like my child!!! Great, great news!!! Liz and Mia |

| Jason, Congrats to you and Bella! I think most of us are a lot chunkier than we would like and definately not rock solid. Ha! It is always great to read good news. Penny |

| Jason, Congratulations! A 40% PCV is music to my ears. I wish Darcy could reach that level. This is such great news about Bella and I am truly happy for the both of you. Can you tell me what other meds Bella has been on during your LONG year? Karen |

| Karen- Bella started out on 20mg Pred, (10mg 2x daily), Aziothiprine, Famatidine, and Doxycycline. I forget the dosages of those. She was pulled off the Famitidine after 6 or 8 weeks. The Doxycycline was pulled after 2 1/2 months or so and the Aziotioprine was pulled about 3 months ago. She's been on Pred only for the last three months. A side effect of teh Pred in her case was he blowing up like a tick.. but she's solid.. no so much obese, as I said before. I think she gained about 5 lbs all total in the last year.. which is better than having lost five lbs in the same time frame. The truly amazing thing, which I've never mentioned here before, is that Bella has some sort of Central Nervous System disorder, and has had it since birth. The vets (3 of them) told us that we would be lucky to ever house train her. Took about 2 months to get her used to using a puppy pad and now.. she either hits the pad or she waits until we get home and goes outside. She had little momentary seizures when she was a puppy, up until she was about a year old. She just grew out of them, which is what our current Vet told us might happen, so we are especially Thankful of the turnout of her situation! |
