Hi everyone, Tiggs continues to maintain pretty well since his IMHA diagnosis on July 16. Currently he is on 40mg/pred twice a day, Imuran 30mg once/day, 20mg aspirin once/day, and pepcid. He's still pretty tired most of the time, and a bit weak, stumbling to jump in back seat of the car, etc. Overall, we've been encouraged though, as his PCVs have been in the mid 30's. Hopefully we will reduce his Pred on Monday. Obviously, the Pred makes him a little ravenous as we all know, but one disturbing thing yesterday, he snapped at another dog when I was giving them both a treat. Tiggs is honestly usually afraid of his own shadow, he's always been very submissive, and always is a good friend to each and every dog he has ever met. I was not at all surprised to see the little snap, but was a little disheartened at the change in his personality. I'm hoping as the Pred decreases, I will have my happy go lucky friendly guy back. Thoughts and experiences from anyone? melissa

I was having the same problems here Melissa. I think the high dosage of pred that I was giving my dog (hound/shepherd mix)was making him irritable and aggressive. I've been slowly reducing the amount that he's been getting and it really has seemed to have helped with his mood. We've been hovering between 32-35 with his PCVs and were thrilled with the progress (he had dropped to 11 at one point) but were wondering if we were doing more harm than good with the high dose of Pred. The tapering off has been working so far because he's actually appearing to be much more spunky and enjoying the company of the other dogs. Good luck!! Maureen

I have heard that about prednizone, I would say irratable and thats in people too. When wylie was on pred she snapped a few times for food. So glad to hear Melissa is doing good Laurie

Melissa...the other thing to consider is your dog is so hungry from the high dose of prednisone he will become "grabby" for food. It probably isn't changing your dog's personality as much as his appetite.

"your dog is so hungry from the high dose of prednisone he will become "grabby" for food" Ron, yes, Wylie is the type of dog who has to take very small bites and chew, chew chew, when she was on pred, Look out! she would aLMOST take finger off when I gave her treats. Laurie
