| Hi All: Just wanted to introduce myself. My cocker spaniel Lucy was diagnosed with IMHA on April 29, 2005. It was a total surprise as many of us have experienced. I immediately came home from the ER Vet and started Googling everything and came across Joanne's wonderful site and began my long journey in the education of this HORRIBLE disease. Fortunately as of now Lucy is doing well. Last PCV was 39.77 on 3/9. Doc thinks that must be her normal because that is what she was at on 10/30/07 too. But we've been through it all. Over the last 3 years we've gone through so many relapses I've lost count...at least 5 or 6 and our Lucy has always fought so hard to come back to us. I just wanted to tell everyone that I've been there where you are and I want to help and support all of you that are new to this devastating disease that has overcome our "kiddos". The one thing that has always gotten me through the relapses something Joanne told me in the beginning..."You know your dog better than ANYONE...you do whatever YOU think is best and what you feel he/she would want". I've lived by those words and guess what? Lucy has always somehow gotten the strength to power through. She's the strongest person I know. She is my shining star and am so so proud of her. I tell her that each day. My husband and I are always encouraging her and I believe that is also to account for much of her success. Even when we'd visit her in the ER kennel when she was having her transfusions we'd tell her to never give up and to fight but most importantly to tell her how MUCH we love her and how proud we are of her. They know and they can hear you... Sorry to ramble, I am just so excited to have found this forum for this. I only wish this had been around when Lucy was first diagnosed. If anyone needs advice or support let me know! Hugs to all of our kids... Crissy and Lucy |

| Crissy, What a fantastic story!!! And what a fighter Lucy is! It is really wonderful to hear stories like yours to give all of us hope. Our Holly is 1 year today and still fighting hard. I agree with you on us knowing our dogs and I believe they will tell us if and when they have had enough fighting, but up to that point with us anyway it is always full steam ahead! GO LUCY!!! | I lost my just turned 54 year old golden retriever, Hunter, to this diseas on oct. 16, 2003,m 8 days after diagnosis---a disease i had never heard of. But i am so thrilled when i read the story of one who has made it. And it gives hope to those whose dogs are battling it now. I am happy your Lucy has made it thru relapses and is still going. |

| Chriss, Congrats to you and Lucy. It sounds like she has been down a long road. I am glad she is still managing to beat it. Best to you both. Penny |
