| Patrice, I'd appreciate if you would tell me the exact name of the Milk Thistle and Same-e products you purchase for Chance instead of Denamarin. I've been giving Denamarin to one of our dogs for almost two years. He has a liver problem, a thyroid problem, and is also diabetic. He never liked taking the Denamarin pills, but we were able to hide them in other foods and were usually successful in getting him to swallow them. Lately I've been cutting the Denamarin into three or four small pieces and trying to hide them, but he seems to know what I'm doing. He finds the pills - he eats the food, but drops the pills onto the floor. Because of this, he's getting his Denamarin only a few days a week. Denamarin costs over $50.00 per month, and I'm throwing many of the pills away. I'm interested in trying the Milk Thistle and Sam-e products that you've mentioned. Did you purchase them from VitaCost? Also, would you know the dosages for a 20 to 25 pound dog? Thank you very much, Sue |

| My little guy has been on lots of meds since his hemolytic event two weeks ago. We've had great success with putting a spoonful of crunchy peanut butter in a bowl, opening the capsules and stirring in the contents, and stirring in the solid pills. Crunchy disguises the pill fragments---with smooth, he could spot the pill. Toby laps it right up. The liquid medicine I let soak into bread, put on a dab of peanut butter and down it goes. I hope this works for you. |

| Sue, I hear ya about the price, I now have 2 dogs on Mirin, $35 for 30 pills. Funny my lab who was put on a a few months ago spits it out and he is a chow hound, he will eat all around it, and thats after I have cut in half. Wylie has no problem eating it though. If yo dont hear from Patrice, do a search I think it was Country Life Liver support. I asked about it last year, but after Wylie had her bad reaction to the Same part )cant remember the techinical name, I just use the Mirin. I was giving them an over the counter powdered Milk thistle same dosage 175 mg I got from my health food store and I think Wylies ALT went up because it was not doing the job because after I put her on the Mirin, it went back down. | Sue, I am sorry, I am burning the candle at both ends these days. I used Denamarin while Chance's alk phos was over 8600, but when it dropped into lower values (as we decreased the prednisone) I switched to using Country Life Liver Support Factors and over the counter Sam-e. I am on a Tick list and when dogs take high doses of doxycycline their liver values can also rise to abnormally high numbers. They always recommend this Country Life blend. I have researched (via the PDR for supplements) every ingredient and found them all to be safe. Here is where you can read more about the use of this for the liver: http://dogsandtickdisease.googlepages.com/liversupport Gil is an expert in tick disease and I trust her very much. I found the cheapest place to get this at vitacost.com I also used Sam-e and the cheapest place I found this was at vitacost.com also as the NSI brand. Dosage, based on what I used for Chance at about 95 pounds, I used a full tab for him. So you would have to cut this into 1/4's or email Gil to find out what she recommends. Dosage for Sam-e is trickier for a 25 lb dog. You cannot break the pills easily. You could skip this for now, or you would have to go to either a 200 mg dose once daily (check with your vet) or use the Denosyl from the vet. my best patrice |

| HI, just a note for dosage - Patrice told me about the MT and sAme, and i consulted a homeopathic vet, and for my late Kent who was about 30lbs, gave 175mg MT and 200 mg sAme. I also made sure he got pet tinic daily, as vitamin B helps alot for the absorbtion of the sAme. I got a great price on the internet for the sAme - i think from wholehealth.com and they included the vitamin b with the order for free. It made a huge difference in Kents health and i wholeheartedly recommend these supplements, and am eternally grateful for this info from Patrice. the denamarin was so expensive! Christine |
