Does anyone know if you can get Atopica from a pharmacy or a store with prescription. I'm trying to find a cheaper way to getting these than my vet's office. And also I need them soon so online is out for this round anyways..

I get my Atopica at our emergency vet center which is cheaper than walmart, costco, etc in my area.

You just need to make sure it is the same consistency/potency outside a vets office. I asked my vet about it and she said there can be variances in the strengths with different brands etc. I actually found my vet to be reasonable on the price. Good luck. I have some Atopica left from when I was giving it to Oliver. I can give it to you if you'd like. It is 100mg doses. There are maybe 6 pills left. I also have a lot of Prednisone, Azathioprine, Rimadyl, etc. that I was just going to take down to the pharmacy and dispose of. I'm not sure of the legality/laws regarding giving this stuff away. Wouldn't want to get into any trouble, but I would be happy to have someone put it to good use. Let me know.

If you choose to get the generic, ask for the generic equivalent of NEORAL. Make sure you are not getting Sandimmune or that generic. I checked Costco and saw they carry generic, but it seems to only be in 100mg dosages. patrice

I just paid 75.00 for 50mg 15 caps of Atopica. I called Walmart today and tried Walgreens no luck.. Guess I'll try the online sites now..

Mardi, Instead of disposing of what you have left try offering to your local shelters. They would probably take it in a heartbeat.

Mardi, in addition to what Penny said I often given any extra meds back to my vet to give our to clients that need them or I stockpile them and take them with us to donate to rescue groups in the caribbean.....we have a trip to Grenada in about 15 days and I have an entire suitcase of meds and supplies for the Grenada SPCA.

No place will take the meds, I've tried. I actually will be sending to someone on here who requested them. Finally, put to good use. Thank you all.

HI All, The meds and what to do with them are an issue. It used to be that you could do nothing with them but throw them away, but some states have a law that allows you to give them to a vet who then gives them to someone else. The reason for this is liability and tampering. Some rescue groups will take them, but it is best for everyone if the meds go through a doctor. For example, some meds have to be refrigerated, and if you dont, then donate, then they dont work for the person or...the possibilities are endless. I was at a garage sale, 100 degrees out, and someone was selling a blister pack of dog antibiotics, very expensive ones (start with a C or CL) anyway, they were in the sun, and would not longer have likely been effective. I would hate to give my dog something that from the get go will not work - wastes valuable time for his healing. My vet used to give me left over kidney meds, and i ended up donating all of kents meds to him, which then went to rescue - a good 700 dollars worth at least. The other issue is selling meds - you and i cannot sell meds. Its absolutely not ok. But you can donate, through the right channels. Informal donations via any lists are at your own risk, as the donor you accept liability, as the donee you understand what you are getting. Sigh, wish things were easier. Christine
