Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Archie needs cyber thoughts next week

Hi Everyone,
Archie is so healthy now so the vet will be operating on him on Monday to remove a retained testicle. We are worried about the surgery but appreciate this should be done due to the high risk of tumours, I feel very guilty about being responsible for making him poorly again so please include him in your prayers next week as I know how much those vibes helped earlier in the year. We will of course be back checking his pcv for a few weeks.

You ALL have our prayers. Please keep us in prayer, too as Tori is due for her 3 in 1 vaccanations and her Rabies next month. She is 4 months into recovery...still on low dose of prednisone and so far, doing well. We have discussed doing titers to see if she is still being protected from her last round of shots BEFORE the near fatal IMHA attack. Thanks.

Merry Christmas!

Sue,
Will be keeping you and Archie in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully he will breeze through the surgery and have a fast recovery. It is amazing sometimes how quick they recover from things that would have us bedridden. He has shown you already what a fighter he is.

Cindi,
I don't know what the laws are in Florida but i would definitely go with the titers and see if they will accept that. If not be sure and get the rabies shot at least 3-4 weeks apart from anything else.

For Sure!!! LOTS of thoughts, prayers and healing vibes for Archie. Archie...you can use this as a means for extra luvins and treats after the surgery.

ps...Cindi, I'm pretty sure Florida has a rabies vaccine exemption law in effect. Do a search online and you'll find all sorts of info. Likely one of the best places for help in deciding this stuff and getting help in general is through the Rabies Challenge Fund ( www.rabieschallengefund.org/ ). Ask you veterinarian to find you a form to fill out similar to this one...
www.thedogplace.org/VACCINES/Rabies-exemption-form-exempt-states-10073.asp

If your vet isn't willing to help then go somewhere else!

FOR SURE if it were me there'd be no way in hell I'd be getting the 3 in 1 (Bordetella, Parainfluenza virus, and Adenovirus Type 2) OR the Rabies vaccine.

Johnny

We will be sending positive vibes accross the pond for Archie next week. Please keep us up dated, as you know we worry.

Hi Everyone,
Whilst I realise everyone is busy please pray for Archie as he has been back at the vets today. He seemed to recover from his op very well but today has been out of sorts, he was sick yesterday and today so we took him back for a check up. His pcv is 45 so not worried there but his temperature is raised slightly and he is very sleepy. Paranoid probably but I do worry so include him tonight please in your thoughts.
Thanks, Sue

What did the vet have to say? Did they place Archie on antibiotics? how does the surgery site look??? Infected or inflammed? Any drugs he's on for pain?
What do you mean by sick?

You've got my healing vibes and prayers coming Archies way!

Hi Johnny,
Archie regurgitated his food yesterday and today although yesterday we were unsure which of our dogs was sick. The vet isn't unduly worried bit will see him tomorrow just to be sure. He has been put on antibiotics and an anti sickness drug to settle his tummy, she has stopped his painkillers as she thinks that may have been making him sick. His surgery site is a little inflated but the vet says this isn't unusual as they had to do an abdominal op after trying to get it through the canal. He is asleep most of the time although awakes to wag his tail when we stroke him. I'm probably over worrying but then you have that tee shirt! How is Tessy? I will update after our visit tomorrow.

Hello Sue,

I am sending well wishes to Archie and all of our furry friends. I am so grateful to have found this site. No one else can fully understand how every symptom or slight change in the personality of our precious gifts can make us worry. We all understand.

It is good news that Archie's PCV is 45. I am praying for a good report tomorrow at the vets.

Was he on the antibiotic right after the surgery? It's quite possible (and likely) that the added drugs may have caused the upset tummy. If I were you I'd make sure to give him a good pro-biotic daily since you are using antibiotics....just make sure you give it at least a couple hours AFTER the antibiotic for optimal effectiveness. Forti Flora is a good one you can get from the vet.
You could also try some camomile tea (brewed strong and cooled) to help take the edge off.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi,
Archie is much more settled and no more sickness, the bruising isn't as bad and his pcv is still 45 so think he will be okay. Just needs to rest for a bit. Merry Christmas to all.

Sue~

Glad Archie is recouping from his surgery. The 45% pcv sounds good.

I just checked Tori's gums tonight and they are so pink and so is her skin. She is holding between 37-40% now going into 5 mos of treatment. What a blessing.

Praying for a healthier NEW YEAR for all our little doggies!

Blessings,
Cindi & Tori
