Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Anyone use Apple Cider Vinegar for Fleas?

Just recently heard about using apple cider vinegar for flea control. It has to be the good organic stuff, not the Heinz stuff in gallon jugs at the grocery store. Can't help but wonder if this would be safe for AIHA dogs in remission-much better than Frontline, etc. Anyone tried this alternative, or even heard of it? If you google apple cider vinegar dogs, you come up with lots of info.

Haven't heard of using that. But I'm open top trying anything holistic for fleas and ticks.

Someone told me about Buck mountian it's a powder that is supposed to be a more natural alterative. HAs anyone used this? I was thinking of trying it for both of my dogs. I'd really rather NOT use frontline but they need some kind of protection.

DO NOT USE GARLIC EVER ON A DOG WITH IMMUNE RELATED PROBLEMS ... GARLIC IS A TOXIN IN CANINES AND COULD POSSIBLY TRIGGER IMHA.

I would be very careful with large amounts of garlic. Given our history, I don't feed garlic or anything that contains garlic and of course onion, cooked or raw. Call me crazy but that is what it is...

I just found this article:

Onions, garlic and chives belong to the Lily family, Liliaceae. They contain sulfur compounds that release thisulfinates when chewed. These turn into disulfides. The most toxic is dipropenyl disulfide. They are oxidizing agents and can cause hemolysis (rupture) of red blood cells. (Remember the H in AIHA)

How toxic these can be depends on the amount of sulfur that is in the soil where they are grown. This form of anemia is identified as Heinz Body. This is because under a microscope you can see bits of oxidized hemoglobin on intact red blood cells or Heinz Bodies. There is no mistaking this form of anemia. These cells will go on to self destruct.

Check out this microscopic view of red blood cells undergoing oxidative stress.

Since we can never know exactly where our onions and garlic were grown, we would never have any way of knowing how toxic they are to our animals. If you want to really use garlic, you could grow it in your own garden after your local cooperative has tested your soil for sulfur content.
