I posted in my other thread Wylie had her checkup on Thursday, complete cbc and liver panel. Her PCv has been holding at 40 She had her spleen removed 40 days ago. The vet mentioned her gums were sticky and and he was perplexed since everything looks good. I visualy check her gums every day and decided to touch them. OMG they are sticky, but pink. Eveyone has shared such valubal info here. any clue as to what this means?

I know that when my non-IMHA dachshund suffered from a bout of gastroenteritis, she was very very dehydrated - and her gums were sticky. Pink, but sticky. Once we got her hydrated, the gums went back to normal. I don't know if this helps, but that is my only experience with it. Congrats on Wylie's counts. holding at 40 sounds good! jeanne & matilda

Sticky gums do mean dehydration, it is also described by some medical folks as "tacky"

Thanks, Yes tacky is a good word for it. She drinks a lot fo water, I did a search and noticed it can be an electrolyte/mineral imbalance. I will talk to the vet again on Monday. Laurie

Hi Laurie, You might ask your vet about pedialyte, for kids, adding a little of that to her water? I am not a vet, i have only heard of this, so please check with someone before doing that. But dehydration is definitely there if gums are tacky. Christine and Kent

I will ask about the pedialite. I had mentioned in other posts her fur looks kind of greasy and I the did pinch test and that seemed okay. But as everyone knows this is all so abnormal who knows what gives. Thanks again Laurie
