Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Anyone heard of a Ranula?

Just wondered if anyone has heard of or had a dog with a ranula. The way I understand it is that it is a salivary gland that somehow gets enlarged. Alex has had this growth for approximately 2 months now in the back of his mouth near the based of his tongue. It especially is visible when he holds a ball in his mouth. I have shown this to the Internal Medicine doc who said she thinks its a ranula and probably not cancerous. It is definitely growing though and his tongue is getting a little displaced. It's beginning to bother him. The last time the doc saw it she said well they could biopsy it if it continues to grow.
She doesn't seem real concerned about it but it is getting in the way of his chewing etc.
It is odd that my other dog had an epulis (also a mouth growth) that was removed in June, Alex diagnosed end of May with IMHA, and now this.
Has anyone heard of this being a side effect from medicine? I am hoping we haven't come this far in fighting IMHA only to need surgery now or worse yet find out its cancerous....
Any suggestions?

Patrice,
Thanks for your help. That site is really informative however it has me questioning if that is what he really has. His is a solid fleshy mass - doesn't look like just a swollen gland/mass with fluid in it. I am waiting for a call from the doc for blood test results ( they are now testing him for Lupus too) and I think I'll see if I can get him in to the doc that did the epulis surgery on my other dog. To me -his looks more like the epulis than the ranula. But what do I know - nothing - just guessing. But oh the doctor bills... ....
Thanks again for your response!!
Happy Turkey Day!
