sway has a urine infection and its been suggested to place her on one of those medications. does anyone have any information on how they react with AIHA/IMHA dogs, good/bad- sway is still holding onto her low 20's count, the thought of unintentionally doing something that would jeopardize that is taking over my brain.

Josh, Did your vet do a drug senesitivy test on the cultured urine to see what antibiotic would work best for Sway's UTI. Doing such a test is so important when dealing with a UTI. My Meisha had a bad reaction to Baytril. It caused her to have a large drop in PCV. She did very well on Clavamox and when we were dealing with a genearlized infection that was our antibiotic of choice.

Hi Josh, Just as Joanne said it best to get a sensitivity test done. When Jacob had a UTI he was given cipro and it worked like a charm. The bacteria responsible for his infection was e.coli and from what I learned that is a rather common culprit. I hope Sway is feeling better soon. Teresa and Jacob

Hi -- Penny is currently on Clavamox for a suspected nasal infection. She is on her 3rd week of it, with no problems except maybe a little upset stomach. We'll be having another PCV done tomorrow, I'll let you know if it is lower, but the behavior etc haven't changed. Good luck. Christine

Josh, Spencer was on both Baytril and Clavamox before with no side effects or conflict with the AIHA. The hospital put him on the liquid baytril when he had his relapse. Clavamox has been more common throughout his 2 1/2 yrs with AIHA. best, Kim and Spencer

Josh, My Monster was on Baytril for three months because of a leg infection. We never did have problems with the drug .... other than the cost! However, I did read that the Baytril crystalizes the Cyclo and therefore, it must be give at least two hours apart, otherwise the system cannot absorb the full dose of the Cyclo. Another antibiotic that you may want to suggust to your vet is Simplecef. Monster was on that too, and still is without any problems. Good Luck! Jenelle & Monster
