Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - another SWAY update 11/03

thanks everyone for your nice words in the last post :)
here is her newest lab results...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3032/3001176968_ed70c84554_b.jpg

her pcv came up a couple points to 23%

she is also now on those eye drops now for diabetes insipidus,
since starting them she is no longer having accidents overnight ...
but her water intake is still just out of control.
the results dont show any kidney red flags either, atleast my vet said the kidneys are fine.
patrice? im curious to know what your thoughts are after seeing the lab results

im so confused as to why her body is so tiny and fragile.
some of the pictures dont capture just how anorexic her body views in person.
i was watching videos of sway from 2005/06 and its just insane how much mass she has lost from her body.
her head is still the worst part, it has no normal formation and is just bone.

i know this is an 'out there' suggestion but im at the ends of my witts here.
has ANYONE ever considered 'chronic fluoride poisoning' from drinking fluoridated tap water as having a part in causing any of these problems or assisting in the inability to recover from other problems??

just off net research and knowing a lil about what is going on country wide i am up on what they are doing to the tap water in the name of 'helping our teeth'...
almost 75% of all tap water now has high levels of flouride in it...
but there are many studies that show this action has terrible side effects
here is a sample from the web-

Flouride… is Neurotoxic and Lowers IQ, Causes Cancer, Changes Bone Structure and Strength, Causes Birth Defects and Perinatal Deaths, Proven Ineffective, Impairs Immune System, Causes Acute Adverse Reactions, Causes Initial Stages of Skeletal Fluorosis, Increases Lead and Ar*enic Exposure, Fluoride Causes Osteoarthritis, Contributes to the Development of Repetitive Stress Injury, Causes Permanent Disfigurement of the Teeth in Many Children, Inhibits Key Enzymes, Supresses Thyroid Function, and Causes Large Numbers of Acute Poisonings.

does anyone else think this is worthy of exploring? im just so clueless as to why sways body is so anorexic

Josh,

It's great that Sway's PCV has come up. I wish you could get to the root of the other problems.

I've always been careful with Darcy's drinking water, giving her only filtered or distilled. Considering Sway's weakened state, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to start giving her the purified water, especially since she's drinking so much.

Does she have a good appetite? What do you include in her diet?

Praying for you and Sway,

Karen

hey josh,

i'm of no help deciphering the blood work, but just wanted to offer support. tiggy has wasted a lot too, i think can be a bit shocking on our dogs because they were so muscular to begin with. we're thinking of you guys and hoping for the best all the time! from one tough little pittie family to another :)

i hope others here with more knowledge and experience can help give you some insight. please keep us posted.

Josh,
I am sorry you are still fighting the mystery of what is wrong with Sway. I was looking at some web sites and came across this one. I was interested in the mention of it addressing problems with dogs that have been on Pred for a long time. I would be interested in what Dr. Dodds might say about it? Keeping you and Sway in my thoughts and prayers.

Josh, sending hugs from myself and Raven. I, too, am baffled by Raven's weight loss. I was expecting her to gain, but she just seems to be wasting away, and it's scary. Raven's last PCV was 22, and she gets tested again later this week. I'm scared, because we dropped her pred to 30 mg/day and she seems much weaker this week. Keeping you both in my prayers.

Hang in there Josh. Hugs to Sway.

Hi Josh
Did Sway's vet ever think she might have cushing disease?

Just a thought.
