| Hello all, I just wanted to give you another update: On Sunday I took Indy in to the vet for another blood test and his HCT came back at 33% - fantastic news! There has been a lot more tail wagging and it seems my little boy is almost back to normal - except for the shaking, weakness, and hunger - none of which have been too bad. While I know the fight is definitely not over, and I am trying to not let my hopes get too high just in case, I can't help but feeling so thankful for the ways things have gone. I am especially thankful for this board and the invaluable information, advice, and comfort you all have offered - thank you all so much! Lindsay and Indy |

| Lindsay, Excellent news! This was a very short recovery and all due to your careful care at home. May I suggest you also ask for handspun PCV at the next visit in addition to the CBC? The HCT tends to be lower than the PCV (due to quirks in the way the HCT % is determined by the automated analyzer) but the PCV is essentially the same thing, just determined visually. Ask your vet if you can come in the back and watch them spin it and compare it to the chart. They will probably be a bit surprised, but also pleased, that you are that interested in the process. It will certainly make it much easier to understand. When I would have Chance's CBC done, I would always have a PCV packed cell volume spun also. It was always around 38-39% while the HCT hematocrit always came in around 33-36%. 38-39% is considered absolutely normal. Soon enough you will be doing medication reductions! my best patrice |
