I came across an interesting website when I was researching bananas and their effect on anemia. www.jem.org/cgi/reprint/69/2/315.pdf It includes info about anemic dogs that were given a diet of bananas, white bread, and salmon. Does anyone think this might be helpful? Karen

Holly gets 1/4 of a bannana every morning with her pills, never really knew if it was really good for her but she loves them. Linda

Tropical fruit is an often used element of some raw diets. I can tell you that my Cassie loves really ripe bananas while Chance will just spit it out, so it can be a dog dependent thing. Cassie likes apples, raspberries, melon but not oranges. Chance could care less about any of them. My personal opinion is that this diet sounds much too restrictive nutrition-wise for the health of the dog. And in addition, dogs can't really digest wheat very. The salmon is great, but if they don't like bananas, it would be very nutritionally limited. Patrice

I've started giving Darcy a small amount of banana with her glucosamine. That's the only raw fruit I give her and I stopped all the raw veggies, carrots, broccoli, etc. because I realized she wasn't digesting them. She's never liked citrus, which is a good thing because she's on Soloxine and grapefruit should be avoided when taking it and some other medications. I've never given her salmon because I worry about mercury content. I know organic liver in moderation (it's rich, so too much can cause tummy upset) is good. Does anyone know of any other foods that help anemia and are safe for dogs? Karen
