Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - AIHA Scare with Harley

Hello! Everyone!
I had a scare with Harley. Yesterday I treated him for fleas and ticks with Frontline. Well this morning I woke up to Harley barely breathing and his gums very pale so I rushed him to the vet. They did a RBC and it was at 45 so the vet said it's not that. I demanded her to find out what is wrong with Harley and the money was not an issue. Well a ton of tests later and over $1000.00 we found out Harley is allergic to Frontline. You talking about scared to death Mommie was. SO besides Harley being allergic to Alpo dry food he's also allergic to frontline. other than that he's healthy....
If your baby is not acting right and has pale gums take them to the vet it could be nothing or it could be something just dont take a chance of it being something.
Harley will be 15 months old on August 25th and after what I went thru with my beloved precious babygirl Katie JoJo 7/21/03 to 7/24/09 I'm not taking any chances.

Maria...you are right on soooo many levels!!! If it wasn't for my awareness and noticing that Sadie wasn't acting right it may have been too late for her. Any time you aren't sure of something or even if it worries you then a vet call is always a good thing....especially with our AIHA doggies! :)

Sorry to hear Harley had an allergic reaction to frontline. Glad you caught it and figured it all out.

Give Harley some hugs for me.

Maria,
Oh my what a scare that must have given you. Glad you found out it was just an allergy reaction. I am so glad where we live we do not have fleas. Just have to watch out for ticks.:) Hugs to you both.

Dear Maria,

I am so glad Harley is OK!
Our experience with this disease makes us so cautious, and it's always in the back of our minds....
As you said, best to get it checked out if you are worried, I guess we can never be too careful.

Millie sends Harley lots of licks back!
