Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - AIHA on TV

Has anyone ever seen tjhe show Dogtown? I was watching the episode today where they took in and are trying to rehabilitate 22 of Michael Vicks' pitbulls. For those who do not know....Michael Vicks was the pro football player who was caught running a dog fighting club and was put in jail for it (hopefully someone will beat on him in there).

Well, one of the dogs had anemia. I do not want to ruin the episode in case anyone wants to watch it so I will not go into detail. I will say though that the dog recovered fully.

It was interesting cause I haven't seen any shows dealing with this horrible disease yet. Worth checking out though. I think it was on the National Geographic channel.

Hey Jonathan!

LOL! I posted this same thing about 6 weeks ago!

So, I am friends with many of the caregivers down at BF, I volunteer there.

Denzel has Babesia, which resulted in IMHA (sort of...). Babesia is a tick borne disease, most common in dogs who were used to fight. About 13 of the 22 Vick(tory) dogs are babesia positive, but Denzel is the only one to my knowledge who developed anemia because of it. The good thing about this is that it responds very well to antibiotic shots.

It was however, great to see a high profile case so similar to our own struggles. Denzel is doing lots better from what I hear.

I must have missed it the first time around. What a great show though.
