Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - A note to all

I have not been posting much in the past few weeks and I wanted to just check in today. I know there have been some new cases of the disease as well as a few more deaths. To those with newly diagnosed dogs please know that dogs CAN and DO survive AIHA/IMHA and go on to live happy healthy lives. If you have not read the Meisha’s Hope AIHA/IMHA Web site as yet:

http://www.cloudnet.com/~jdickson/

I would urge you to do so when you can. Be sure to follow the links on the first page to many other sites on AIHA/IMHA that will be very helpful to you and do read the Success Stories pages. They will show you what has worked for other dogs in terms of treatment options as well as give you a lot of HOPE.

To those of you who have lost your dog to the disease, please accept my very deepest sympathies on your loss. When you feel up to it, you might want to read the Loss & Grief page at the Meisha’s Hope Web site:

http://www.cloudnet.com/~jdickson/loss.htm

this page was written with input from those who have lost their dogs to AIHA/IMHA and contains many resources that will be very helpful to you during these most difficult days.

On a personal note, the reason I have been absent from this forum recently is my husband’s mother had a major fall two weeks ago and sustained massive injuries. In the last two weeks we have been dealing with doctors, nurses, case managers, social workers and more. The situation is far from resolved and we have no idea what the outcome will be but we are trusting God for strength and guidance.

I try to check into the forum at least once a day to read updates and remove spam but if I am a bit slow on the spam removal I hope you will be patient.

Hugs to all the canine kids from Maddie and me and know you all are in my thoughts and prayers.
Joanne MN

Joanne,

Prayers to you and your family...I have been dealing with something similar since June, my elderly father fell and broke his back. We have been dealing with hospitals, rehab centers, home nurses etc. since. It is not easy, my heart breaks for you.
