Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - 12-23 Visit with Brandi

I had a really good visit with Brandi. They weren't busy tonight so I got to stay for a little bit, probably about 30 minutes. I got to hug her, kiss her, sing to her, tell her I love her over and over and let her know I'm fighting for her. She was still getting her latest transfusion and her gums were pinker. She doesn't have a bloody nose and her bloody diarrhea has stopped. That coincides with her higher platelet count. Dr Dugas said that gives us a ray of hope. We'll take what we can get! I just need those meds to kick in! It's been 7 days today. How many transfusions will her body allow?

Dr Dugas and I talked for several minutes just outside the critical care unit after my visit with Brandi. I heard a dog barking. Guess who it was? Brandi! They said she does that every time I visit when I leave. She loves her Mom so much and her Mom loves her so very much.

I told Dr Dugas she didn't have to call me tonight with an update since we left around 8pm. She will call me tomorrow with the latest pcv and platelet count. Please pray both go up, up, up and stay up! Oh please dear God, please help my girl!

Thank you all so much. I wish none of us had a need for this forum but until there's a cure I'm so thankful for the support.

Sorry that didn't work.
I wanted to let you know that you and Brandi are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you are blessed tomorrow with good numbers.

Thank you Shannon. Did you contact Dr Dodds? I can't stress how important that is. She's the expert and is very willing to help. Amazing is all I can think of to describe her. I imagine she must get tons of email but somehow manages to reply quickly.

Thinking of you, your girls and Nigel.

Teresa, we are praying for Brandi and hoping for high counts tomorrow. I started to cry when I read what you typed, "please God, help me girl". I prayed those words so many times over the past six months. So, I know what it's like.

Teresa,

Sending up prayers for you and Brandi. I know how hard it is to leave her in the hospital overnight. It sounds like Brandi is staying strong for her mom. You stay strong for Brandi.
